Gala Waterways Group Gala Waterways Group exists to encourage access to, enjoyment and interest in and around the watercourses in Galashiels.

The Group aims to create walking routes, clean-up the environment and protect the industrial heritage.

On Saturday 06 June 2026 four volunteers cleared old rubbish along the left bank of the River Tweed near Galashiels Sewage Works. Some items needed excavating. The work has improved the appearance of the area, but will need to be repeated as erosion exposes further rubbish.

Our next project will be on Saturday 06 June, 10 am - noon. We will be removing large, old rubbish from the left bank of the River Tweed near the Sewage Works. Meet at 10 am beyond the green barrier at the extreme south end of the lane that runs adjacent to the Scottish WATER depot off Winston Road, TD1 2DA.
