The Community Council is considering whether to renew or relinquish its lease of the Glebe, an area of amenity ground owned by the Church of Scotland.

The site has benefited from improvements carried out in recent years by Gairloch and District Development Ltd (GAD), which no longer wishes to continue in a management role, leaving future arrangements in question.

The lease requires the land to be reinstated to its original condition at the end of its term, with Community Council officers held personally liable. Members have expressed concern that renewing the lease could place significant obligations on future Councillors over its 25-year term.

The Community Council recognises that the Glebe is valued locally for informal recreation — walking and dog exercise in particular — and that any change in its status may be of concern to residents, but in view of the circumstances it is minded to relinquish the lease.
