Changes are coming to Pudding & Pages…
After a good chat with those who came to the September edition of Pudding & Pages about what is and isn’t working for me as a host, and for the club in general, from October 2026 I will be implementing some changes to the format of our events. The format hasn’t changed much at all since the club started in August 2024 and I have been mulling these changes for a while. I think combining them with our change of venue seems like a good time to implement them.
What will be staying the same?
- The ticket price. The £12 ticket price hasn’t increased since the book club began in August 2024 and isn’t changing now.
- Reading and discussing great books.
- Our wonderful community and atmosphere.
- Delicious puddings themed around what we have read, plus a drink.
- Quarterly book swaps.
- Special Christmas Jolabokaflod book swap.
What is changing?
- The event duration will be slightly shorter. Moving forward we will meet between 19:00 and 21:00.
- Guest authors. These will no longer be advertised as a regular feature of the club. We will still have guest authors sometimes but they’re no longer going to be a core part of the timetable.
- Instead, we will have 20-30 minutes where members can choose between reading, a bring-your-own craft activity, or bookish colouring in (materials provided).
- Maximum numbers. Maximum numbers will now be capped at 24 per meet, for the time being, for coziness and because we are trying out a new round table seating arrangement which would be impractical with too many people. This will be reviewed periodically.
- The voting shortlist and monthly themes. Instead of members voting between four books each month, we will be alternating between a host-curated read and a voting shortlist of two titles. October will be a two-book shortlist, November will be host-curated, December will be a two-book shortlist, and so on. There will be no themes.
NB: the annual reading tracker given out in January 2026 and associated competition to win an annual club pass is still very much valid!
Alongside our fantastic new venue, I hope that these changes to the book club meets will be refreshing and enjoyable and I hope to have a full table in October.
