This Page has absorbed and replaced the three previous versions , Rotary in Yorkshire, Rotarys' Community Activities in Yorkshire and Rotary In Your Community,as we welcome 24 clubs joining us from N. NOTE:The first Rotary club was founded in 1905 when four friends met in Chicago to discuss how they could work together to help the wider community. Rotary has since grown internationally to more than 1.2 million members across 200 countries.We focus our efforts in six areas: promoting peace, preventing diseases, providing access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing maternal and child health, improving basic education and literacy, and helping communities develop.

Our organisation started when Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney, had an idea of forming a club where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the early practice of rotating meetings between the offices of each member. In 1914 the organisation moved across the Atlantic and the British Association of Rotary Clubs was established. The association was renamed Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland in 1924. Today Rotary continues to respond to the needs of an ever changing world, whilst retaining its strong founding principles.

🏃‍♀️🍂 RECORD TURNOUT FOR WHITBY ROTARY’S OCTOBERFEST FUN RUN! 🍂🏃‍♂️

What a fantastic afternoon at Whitby School! ☀️

Over 170 runners took part across the primary school races and Open Race, making this a record-breaking year! 👏

With schools from across the area represented, there were plenty of smiling faces, medals for every runner and shields for the race winners.

❤️ The event also raised sponsorship for Operation Smile, helping children born with cleft palate conditions.

A huge thank you to Whitby School, Shaun Hopper and everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success!

Just a quick reminder of a fabulous evenings music on Friday 30th October when we shall be hosting Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band who will be providing the music. It is at Sandal Methodist Hall; 7 for 7.30 with food provided, all for the very modest sum of £10 and you ca pay at the door.
