Quick update from the 1st & 7th Frome Cubs ⚜

We're still looking for someone to take over as Cub Leader from September. The summer term is flying by, and we really want to find the right person so we can do a proper handover.

Our Cubs have worked so hard to build this pack into what it is today. We owe it to them to keep it going β€” but without a new leader, we'll have some very difficult decisions to make about the pack's future.

If you've been thinking about it β€” or if you know someone who'd be great β€” now's the time. A quick chat costs nothing, and you might surprise yourself.

Every share helps. Thank you, Frome. πŸ’œ

Four years ago I agreed to help restart a Cub Pack. I had no idea what I was getting into. πŸ˜…

Since then I've watched shy 8-year-olds become confident young people. I've seen Cubs nail their first campfire, earn badges they never thought they could, and support each other like a proper team.

It's given me more than I ever expected β€” proper laughs, pride in seeing kids grow, and friendships with an amazing group of volunteers.

I'm stepping into a new role supporting the whole group from September, and I want someone to have the same experience I've had leading this pack.

It really is always worth it.

If this sounds like something you'd love β€” even if you're not sure you can do it β€” please get in touch. I promise we'll support you.

What Does a Cub Leader Actually Do?

πŸ€” "I'd love to help but I wouldn't know where to start..."

We hear this a lot. So let's bust a few myths about being a Cub Scout Leader:

❌ "You need to have been a Scout yourself"
βœ… Nope. Most of our leaders weren't. You'll learn on the job with full training.

❌ "You need to be outdoorsy and know how to tie knots"
βœ… Helpful, but not essential. Cubs do crafts, science, cooking, teamwork games, community projects and loads more.

❌ "You're on your own"
βœ… Absolutely not. We have assistant leaders, a parent helper rota, and a new Group Lead Volunteer who'll support you every step.

❌ "It's a massive time commitment"
βœ… It's one evening a week during term time, plus occasional events. You set the pace.

❌ "I'm not qualified"
βœ… Free training, a DBS check, and ongoing mentoring are all provided by Scouts. They want you to succeed.

The real qualification? Caring about young people having fun, learning new things, and building confidence.

🌟 A New Chapter for 1st and 7th Frome Cubs! 🌟

The last four years have been an absolute whirlwind! From rebuilding our Pack after the pandemic to seeing the incredible growth and friendships within our group, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

As many of you know, I am moving into a new role as Group Lead Volunteer this summer. While I’m staying with the Group to help guide things from a higher level, my new professional commitments mean I won't be able to lead the weekly Cub sessions myself anymore.

πŸš€ WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU! πŸš€

We need someone brilliant to step into the Cub Leader role.

Do you...
βœ… Love working with children?
βœ… Want to give back to your local community?
βœ… Want to be part of an established, fun-loving team?

Don't let the word "Leader" intimidate you! You won't be flying solo. You will have the full backing of our Group, incredible training, and a team of support to help with everything from planning to admin.

πŸ€” What does it actually involve?

You'd plan and run weekly meetings for our Cubs (ages 8–10Β½) with the help of an amazing leader team and parent rota. You don't need any previous Scouting experience β€” full training, mentoring and a DBS check are all provided free of charge.

We want to keep this Pack running strong for years to come. We have built something special here, but finding the right person to lead the sessions is essential to ensuring we can keep our doors open for the Cubs.
