🟣 World Cancer Day: A powerful message from two brothers treated at the RUH
Today on World Cancer Day, we’re sharing the story of brothers David and Robert Taylor, who both underwent successful robotic surgery for prostate cancer here at the RUH - just weeks apart.
After a routine check-up led to a PSA test, Robert, 67, was referred to our urology team for further investigation. When he told his brother David, 70, about the high result of the test, David decided to get tested too. With a family history of prostate cancer, both brothers were quickly referred to the RUH for treatment.
Thanks to the incredible precision of our Da Vinci surgical robot – funded by our RUHX Charity – both men were able to have minimally invasive radical prostatectomies. This advanced technology helps our surgeons operate with greater accuracy and supports faster recovery times. In fact, Robert was able to return home the same day as his surgery.
🗨 Robert said:
“It was incredible to think I’d just had major surgery and could get home the same day. My experience at the RUH was very positive from start to finish – the staff were first class.”
🗨 David added:
“The care I received was magnificent. Every member of staff I met was so caring and supportive.”
Their message today is simple but vital:
👉 If prostate cancer runs in your family, please speak to your GP and get checked.
Anyone with a prostate gland can be at risk of prostate cancer. You can learn more about symptoms, testing and treatment on the NHS website. Just search 'NHS prostate cancer'
Thank you to David and Robert for sharing their story, and to our dedicated surgical and urology teams for the outstanding care they provide every day. 💜
