Frome Twinning Association

Frome Twinning Association "We aim to promote an understanding between the people of the twinned towns, of their culture, their traditions and organisations, and their social life."

Frome's Twinning Tradition
Frome was officially twinned with Château-Gontier, in the Mayenne, France in 1975, and with Murrhardt in Baden Württemberg, Germany in 1983. Although the Twinning ceremonies themselves were official events and took place at civic level, they opened the way for many different twinning opportunities to take place between the peoples of the three towns over the following ye

ars.The official twinning with Rabka-Zdrόj, Poland, followed in 2009 and meant that the four towns were all twinned together. The most tangible evidence of the success of Frome's association with its partners is the wide variety of exchange visits, which continue to take place. There are required formal civic events, but social ones arranged between organisations or individuals within the town vastly outnumber these. Over the years these have included trips by several schools, by the college, by churches, by the emergency services, by youth organisations, by clubs and often simply by small groups of individuals or families. The Frome Twinning Association was set up by the amalgamation of two associations that served twinning arrangements with Château-Gontier and Murrhardt, and today exists to promote twinning between the four partner towns. It is our principal aim to help and enable individuals or organisations to enjoy the rich and rewarding experience which visiting or inviting a twin town can bring. It has often been involved in some way in the visits and is always on hand to offer advice and support in any way it can.The Association is served by a small committee, made up of people elected by the membership, which administers the formal requirements of the Association. On behalf of members it arranges and organises the "official" visits to and from the partner towns, helps and advises organisations and individuals with twinning matters, seeks to help find accommodation in Frome for visitors from the twin towns and liaises with those towns to arrange accommodation for visitors from Frome.

We have just got back from a wonderful weekend in Murrhardt. The Frome party of adults and young people were treated to a superb programme of meetings, visits to the local area, and cultural and culinary experiences.
After 3 years of not being able to meet, it was great to be able to see old friends again, meet new ones and discuss matters of mutual interest.
We hope to meet again next summer in Rabka-Zdrój in Poland.

Frome residents came together today for the annual Act of Remembrance in front of the Memorial Theatre to remember all those who died in war. Frome Twinning Association’s Chair, Justin Worringham, placed a wreath on behalf of the Association, but also on behalf of our Twin Towns, Château- Gontier in France, Murrhardt in Germany and Rabka-Zdròj in Poland.
