4th Frodsham (Overton) Scout Group was formed in 1978 in the Five Crosses Infant School building in Overton, Frodsham, and we celebrated our first 30 years in July 2008. In September 2009, our building was modernized and a large extension was opened. This has improved significantly the quality of our accommodation with a large new hall, new kitchen, meeting room & plenty of store rooms, and has broadened the range of activities we can offer. Scouting is open to both boys and girls and we currently are over-subscribed. We have three sections: Beaver Scouts (usually for children aged six to eight), Cub Scouts (eight to ten-and-a-half) and Scouts (ten-and-a-half to fourteen); each with a team of leaders consisting of a section leader, several assistants and parent helpers. A Scout group is headed by a Group Scout Leader and supported by a team of parent helpers and an Executive Committee. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. "Participation" rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. Scouting also provides opportunities to explore values and personal attitudes. It is a great way to meet people and socialise outside of school. Most importantly Scouting is about having fun and activities are tailored to meet the needs of the young people involved.

As part of the navigator badge the Cubs took a walk off the beaten track. It was a gorgeous sunny evening to navigate through the lush fields of Overton. Just beware the stinging nettles!

🔥🎶I’m a firestarter…🎶🔥

In preparation for Chamboree and Cheshire Hike in the coming months, the Scouts learned all about gas and fuel safety.

We explored a variety of heavyweight and ultralight cooking systems, as well as gas lanterns. The Scouts learned how to set them up, how to troubleshoot, and look for leaks. We also discussed the different situations where butane or propane would be more appropriate (and discussed when to use a mix of them both).

The Scouts also had the opportunity to see the difference between the MSR WindBurner, lightweight camp stoves, and a Trangia using methylated spirits. We put them to the test to see which could boil a cup of water the fastest.

We spoke about the risks associated with various fuel types as well as the easily preventable risks of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

🌰 Something exciting is coming… our Squirrel Section trial is opening soon! 🐿️

We already have 2 leaders on board and we're now looking to build an amazing team around them.

We're currently looking for:

👥 Leaders – we already have 2 fantastic people in place and would love more support to help create adventures for our youngest Scouts.

📋 Trustees – help guide and support the future of our Scout Group.

💛 Fundraisers – help us grow, develop and create opportunities for young people.

Whether you can give a little time or a lot, we'd love to hear from you.
