Ever wondered what happens at the top of the tower? 🔔

St Mary’s Church bells have been a bit quieter recently due to a shortage of local ringers. However, several of our neighbours have asked about learning, so we are launching a brand-new, two-month training course later in the year!

To kick things off, we are holding an introductory session tomorrow evening. Six local learners are already signed up, and we would love for you to join us too.

When: Monday 8th June at 6:30pm

Where: St Mary’s Church, Frittenden

What to expect:
- A friendly chat about the history and art of bell ringing.
- A walk up the 40 steps to the ringing room.
- An optional ladder climb into the belfry to see the bells up close.
- A short demonstration by experienced ringers.
- A chance to try it yourself under close, expert supervision.

Whether you are looking for a unique new hobby, a great mental and gentle physical workout, or just want to help keep a historic village tradition alive, please come along.

There is no pressure to commit to the full course—just turn up tomorrow, have a look around, and see what it’s all about!

This Saturday, 23rd May, a visiting group of bellringers from Sussex will be stopping by Frittenden! They are scheduled to ring the bells at St Mary’s Church starting at 4:15 pm until 5:00 pm.

While they are visiting several towers across Kent, the draw of Frittenden bells—and the nearby Bell and Jorrocks for refreshment—rightly made Frittenden their final stop of the day! 😀

If you are around the village on Saturday afternoon, do listen out for the bells. You might even catch the ringers for a chat at the pub afterwards. 🍻

🔔 Discover the Art of Bellringing in Frittenden!

Did you see Kent and Sussex bellringing featured on BBC1’s The One Show?

The broadcast highlighted Kent’s young ringers and even Pink Floyd bass player Guy Pratt who has recently started learning how to ring bells at St Andrew's church in Alfriston!

Here is a recording in case you missed it.

CELEBRATING BELL SUNDAY
Tomorrow, the bells of St Mary’s Church will ring out to celebrate Bell Sunday. We love keeping this historic tradition alive in our village, but we need your help to keep it going.

JOIN FRITTENDEN BELLRINGERS
Our local band has shrunk recently. All our young ringers are away at university, and several of our experienced ringers have moved away from the area. Because of this, we now rely on the help of ringers from neighbouring towers to help us ring for special occasions.

We would love to ring our bells more regularly, but we cannot do it without new local volunteers.

GET IN TOUCH
No previous experience is needed to learn! Please contact us if you would like to:
• Learn the art of bellringing.
• Hear the bells ring out across the village more often.
• Discover the history of our tower and bellringing.
• Just see the view!

Frittenden bells are going to be rung by two groups of ringers tomorrow.

Watch out for the “Bellringing Motorcyclists” on their tour of Kent. Tomorrow they are ringing four great rings of bells, Canterbury Cathedral, Rochester Cathedral, Maidstone All Saints and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, St Mary’s, Frittenden…!

The Bellringing Motorcyclists will be ringing Frittenden bells between 9:45am and 10:30am.

Between 2:00pm and 3:00pm local ringers from across the Weald Deanery will be ringing Frittenden Bells on their tour of ten towers across the Deanery. We will be raising funds for “Friends of Kent Churches” during the ‘Ride & Stride’ event…

This Saturday, 23rd August, Rye Bellringers will be visiting Frittenden and ringing our eight fantastic Gillett & Johnston bells while on a 'mini ringing tour' in the area.

Listen out for the bells between 2:15pm and 3:00pm and maybe come along to St Mary's if you want to talk to the ringers and find out a little more about bell ringing.

The pictures are of their home tower, another St Mary's but in East Sussex...
