Home-Start North East Aberdeenshire is part of an international organisation that has been operating since 1985. The local scheme was founded in Fraserburgh in 1995 and extended it’s service into Peterhead in January 1999. It is managed by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from local voluntary and statutory agencies and interested members of the community. What is Home-Start? Home Sta

rt North East Aberdeenshire is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, and practical help to families with young children who are experiencing difficulties. What do Volunteers do? Volunteers visit families in their own homes, where there is at least one child under five years of age. They form relationships with the families in which time can be shared and understanding developed. Playing with the children, talking and listening, helping in and out of the home, all kinds of help can be offered. Volunteers? Home-Start volunteers are people who are parents themselves or who have parenting experience and understand the stresses of bringing up children, which can be a difficult and demanding job! No specific qualifications are required, all volunteers are good listeners, warm and compassionate and aware of the needs of families. Before a volunteer goes to work with a family they must attend a training programme. It is Home-Start policy to rigorously screen all volunteers before they are matched with families. Regular support and on-going training is offered to all volunteers by the co-ordinator. Which families can
Home-Start help? If you are a mum, dad or carer with a child under five, and are feeling things are tough at the moment, you can ask for help. We help parents going through difficult times including:
Loneliness and isolation
Relationship problems
Coping with twins, triplets or several pre-school children
Ill health, disability or special needs
Lone parenting
First-time parenthood or new babies
Postnatal illness
Children’s behavioural problems
Families from all backgrounds or are new to the area. Families can refer themselves or can be referred by their health visitor, social worker or other professional working with the family. Home-Start NEA offers its services in Fraserburgh, Peterhead and surrounding rural areas.

The theme for is ‘Attunement’ but what does that actually mean?

In short, it means how 'in tune' you are with your baby.
How do you connect with your baby?
Have a little think, and see what things you do that form the special connection.
It could be something as simple as keeping eye contact 💜

We had such a lovely morning at the Strengthening Connection event in Fraserburgh. Always grateful to be invited and included 💜🧡

We know how important connection is, so a big thank you to all who attended our Strengthening Connections in Fraserburgh and Surrounding Areas event a fortnight ago. There were some fantastic conversations and connections, highlighting the brilliant organisations working hard to deliver a huge variety of services in their communities.

Over the past 48 hours, 115 spaces have been booked across our groups!

Running a charity is hard work. We receive almost daily rejections for funding applications, and we spend a lot of time convincing potential funders that what we do is needed, valuable, and worthy of support.

But this kind of response is exactly what gives us the fire in our bellies to keep going. It reminds us why we fight so hard to ensure our adventurers have the opportunity to shine and a safe space where they can truly be themselves.

Want to come to our Community Summer Groups but not sure where we are?

This year we’re using The Hub Peterhead on Windmill Street. Where is that you ask? Let us show you!

Starting at the bus station, with the main building behind you, turn right and head down Windmill Street. You’ll pass Harley of Scotland, then First Class Nursery before reaching the old O.A.P Social Club. We’re just in there 😊

The Hub is a versatile event space in the heart of the town designed to accommodate a range of events for any occasions with community spirit in mind.
