On Sunday 30 August the coastguard paged Fowey lifeboat crew to launch to reports of calls for help from two young people in the water at Golant.

The crew launched the D class at 10:23am. A follow up call confirmed that the person was ashore on a small beach. The information was relayed to the helm and they subsequently confirmed that there were four adults and two children safely ashore with kayaks, and that no assistance was needed. St Austell Coastguard and Fowey Harbour were also on scene. The lifeboat conducted a search of the shoreline and surrounding area as a precaution and was then stood down, returning to the station at 11am.

At Polruan Lifeboat Day we were presented with a cheque for £400 from John and Sara Hanns representing Callington Lions.
The cheque was for money raised from a concert on August 7th with The Wandering Elderberries. Thank you to everyone who donated.

On Thursday 27 August Falmouth coastguard tasked Fowey lifeboat station to launch the D Class lifeboat to investigate a report from a yacht of an upturned yellow kayak.

Fowey’s crew launched the lifeboat at 8:25am and proceeded to the location provided by the yacht. They confirmed the details with the yacht on scene, and located the kayak on rocks between Lantic beach and Little Lantic beach. They performed a search of the area looking for signs of a person or people and activity or evidence, but found nothing. The kayak had signs of having been in the water for some time, and the crew recovered it and returned it to the station to prevent any other call-outs to it.

On Sunday 16 August at 4:19pm Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of Fowey’s D Class inshore lifeboat to assist with recovering a 35yr old female with a suspected back injury. The injury happened on Lantic Beach, which has very steep access, meaning that attending crews could not safely get her off the beach by land.

Fowey’s crew launched their D class lifeboat at 4:35pm and arrived on scene at 4:43pm. Polruan Coastguard team were already in attendance, and the lifeboat crew assisted with casualty care and discussed options for getting the casualty to safety. South West ambulance crew then arrived at the scene and took over the casualty care.

Due to her injuries it was decided that the best option was to transport the casualty by lifeboat to the Pilot pontoon in Fowey, and then onwards via ambulance to Treliske Hospital. The lifeboat crew left the scene with the casualty onboard at 6:40pm and proceeded at a slow speed to Fowey. There the casualty was handed over to the awaiting ambulance service at 7:18pm. Great teamwork by all rescue crews involved.

On Saturday 15 August, Fowey RNLI were tasked at 3:25pm to launch both their D Class and Atlantic 85 lifeboats to assist four casualties on three paddleboards off Lantivet Bay to the east of Fowey. Two of the boards were around one mile offshore and were struggling to get back to the beach in a gusty northerly wind. Fowey’s volunteer crew launched their Atlantic 85 lifeboat first at 3:37pm and arrived on scene to the two offshore casualties at 3:45pm. The crew then towed the casualties safely back to the beach.

The crew launched their D class lifeboat at 3:42pm and arrived at the location of the other two casualties at 3:55pm. The two people were on one paddleboard and by this time, these two casualties were safely close to the beach and did not require any assistance.

Our lifeboats get called out to rescue paddleboarders on a regular basis, especially in the warm weather. The RNLI advises paddleboarders to always check the weather forecast and tide times and don’t get caught out by the weather. Avoid offshore winds as they will tire you out quickly when trying to return to shore. Always wear a personal floatation device and carry a means of calling for help. Also wear a leash and hold onto your board to help you float if you do get into trouble.

Thank you so much to Fred Gardner who came to Fowey lifeboat station today to present us with a cheque for over £1,000. Fred organises and runs a golf day every year to raise funds for Fowey RNLI and always visits us at the station when he is here on holiday. Lovely to see you Fred and thank you.

Fowey RNLI crew member Boris has just recently taken over as landlord of the Safe Harbour Inn so this is his first time hosting the Shanty Festival. Thank you Boris and your team, it's sure to be a great event, raising money for Fowey lifeboat station and Funnybone Youth Theatre.

You heard it here first! This Saturday is the annual Shanty festival in our car park.

We will have a wonderful paella bubbling away all afternoon as well as a bbq.

We also have an array of guest ales and ciders available.

Entry is by donation and we have a raffle as well, so remember that change!! Any spare bottles of booze, please drop them into the pub this week for the barrow of booze!

Also, please remember that as usual, the bar in the carpark is cash only.

Once the singing is finished in the carpark, we have the very popular and incredible Limited Edition performing in the bar from 9pm

We cannot wait to welcome you all from 2pm!
