Room 13 Studios, Caol

It's been great seeing the work of a group of Lochaber High pupils emerging over the past few weeks. Each person in the group has their own interests and ideas and has been using Room 13 to explore new materials and ways of expressing the things that matter to them.

Here is a wee look at one of the artists in the group, who was very keen to share his work with you all on Facebook!

"The train drawings are a template for me to use for my upcoming anime/manga story. They are based on real trains including the JIVR CG2 Locomotive (based in Japan) and the Jones Goods Class built in Scotland."

A really interesting way of bringing 19th century Scottish engineering into a futuristic storyline using the manga art form. We're looking forward to seeing how it develops!

At the end of term we'll be showcasing work from this group in an online exhibition.

Using different materials and equipment in and around Caol, Maddie will help us think about new, exciting ways that we can make art inspired by our environment. We'll work with things we find on the shore and use digital equipment like cameras and scanners, as well as traditional, good old-fashioned drawing, collage and printing too!

Best experienced by coming to both sessions.

Room 13 is a relaxed and friendly art studio in Caol Community Centre. The session will be led by Maddie Lennon, with Room 13 Lead Artist Richard Bracken. We'll be working outdoors and indoors.

Might be a bit warmer and brighter by the weekend!🤞

Well done Mark! Great progress on the new High Street mural!

Fantastic progress on the High Street mural!

A big well done to Mark Faulkner, who’s making incredible progress already. The colours and detail are really starting to shine - and the great weather is definitely helping things along.

🌅Local landscapes from start to finish... Enjoy this timelapse showing 10 hours of painting in just under a minute! We were joined in Room 13 by artist Lizzie Moult, who shared her approach to landscape painting with a group of young artists.

Painting, or making any art for that matter, is not straightforward and definitely not always easy! This timelapse shows the process these artists have gone through to create their final results.

Everyone went through their own struggles with the paint, trying to capture an image of a place that meant something to them. It was great to see how everyone stepped out of their comfort zones, persevered and challenged what they thought they could do. Well done everyone!

This was the 2nd of our Micro Projects series - we're looking forward to the next ones - making 'readymade' sculpture Alex Smart and creatively exploring our surrounding environment with Maddie Lennon.
