Bike Maintenance- Courses, Workshops and Classes
One of the things we do here at the Fort William Bike Shed is help you learn how to maintain your own bike. Lots of you attend our Fix Your Own Bike sessions and learn as you work. If you would like either a basic intro to checks and things you can do at home, or a deeper dive into all things home bike maintenance then have a look through the sessions we have on offer this Autumn and Winter. We hope that you will find something to suit.
Maintaining your own bike is great for your confidence and your wallet, it also saves those delays while you're waiting for it to get fixed in a busy shop.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to attend any of these and cost is a barrier to you. We have an ACCESS courses scheme for people wgo can be referred by someone else or self refer.

The trishaw went along to the launch of the new wayfinding system in Fort William on friday- we got chatting to a few cyclists despite the awful weather! The system will be useful especially for visitors making their way around by bike or on foot. The makers are looking for feedback especially on the digital aspect of the project so take a look at the platform and feedback to them to help them make improvements https://maps.markedwayfinding.com/

Have you tried the new wayfinder route yet?

Fort William Bike Shed Library
We're working with partners in Acharacle to promote the use of a couple of particularly special bikes. This Cargo Bike and Electric Mountain Trike are available to book via our library page, they are located in Acharacle however so have to be picked up and dropped off there.
The Riese and Muller Multicharger 3 Mixtie can be used to transport a couple of kids around, or a load of shopping!

The Jorvik Electric Mountain Trike will give you all the stability you need plus the boost of E assist for your adventures.

For users in Fort William we have a couple of cargo bikes and electric trikes closer to home- they might not be quite as stylish as these ones though!

To make a reservation please set up an account on our library, once your account has been confirmed you will be able to book out the bike of your choice.

Yesterday evening Laura went to Caol Library for a ‘Dr. Bike’ session! She gave 7 bikes a ‘health check’.

Almost everyone stayed and they got the chance to learn the process of checking over their bikes.

A lovely evening!

Thank you Hilary from Caol Library (a Green Library Hub!) for organising👩‍🔧

🔧 Repair Café is back this Saturday! 🔧

After a summer break, the Fort William Repair Café returns this Saturday at Lochaber Hope Community Hub.

📅 Saturday 29th August
⏰ 11am–2pm
📍 Lochaber Hope Hub

Got something broken or in need of a bit of TLC? Bring it along and our brilliant volunteers will see if they can help repair it and give it a new lease of life. Household items, small electricals, clothing, toys and more are all welcome.

There’s plenty else happening at Lochaber Hope while you’re there too, including the Hope Café Pop-Up with homemade food, cakes and hot drinks, information from UHI about courses and routes into learning and an exhibition of photographs taken by local young people over the summer.

So bring along something to repair, grab some lunch and have a look at everything else going on!

Everyone welcome, no need to book.

🌱 Seed Circle Lochaber: Summer Gathering this Saturday!

A reminder that our first Seed Circle Lochaber gathering is taking place this Saturday and we'd love to see you there.

Whether you've been growing Seed Circle varieties this year, are interested in learning more about seed saving, or simply enjoy growing your own food, flowers and vegetables, you're very welcome to join us.

We'll be sharing experiences from this year's growing season, discussing seed saving and seed sovereignty, and looking ahead to activities planned for the autumn. There will also be a selection of open-pollinated winter seeds from Seeds of Scotland available to take home.

📅 Saturday 29th August
⏰ 3.00pm – 5.00pm
📍 Kilmallie Community Centre, Corpach

Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

Please book a free place here:

Feel free to share with friends, family and fellow growers who may be interested. 🌱
