Why not take advantage of currently free entry at Nairn Museum. Something to discover for everyone.

🎟️ Looking for something to do in Nairn? Why not pop into Nairn Museum! Entry is currently by donation, making it a great time to explore our local history and heritage.

🔍 While you're here, we're also helping our friends at Nairn Academy with a very special mission: finding their lost time capsule!

📢 Calling all former Nairn Academy pupils, especially those who attended in 1975 and 1976.

A time capsule was buried around the time the current school building was completed and opened. We believe it may be hidden somewhere among the trees to the left of the main gate.

Do you remember where it was buried? Do you have any photographs or details that could help us pinpoint its location?

We would love to uncover the time capsule and open it at the school's farewell event for the current building on 27th June but first, we need to find it!

Please share this post and tag anyone who might remember. Every clue could help!

A huge achievement. Fantastic result, The Friends of Kinneil - Bo'ness and Historic Environment Scotland

As of yesterday, the museum building at Kinneil is now under the operation of Historic Scotland, thanks to all involved in reaching this outcome. We met with them yesterday, and volunteers can look forward to supporting them with the new model which has potential for further development and evolution. If you'd like to be involved, please consider getting in touch and joining the Friends!

In the meantime the building will undergo some essential work and alterations, and during the week it will be mainly closed for this transitional period. Its toilets and some other basic facilities should be available every Saturday from today when Kinneil House is open for its regular guided tours. New opening arrangements and other visitor information beyond that will be made known in due course.

Learn more about the stories of Kinneil House & Estate on a house tour this afternoon at 1pm, 2pm or a family-friendly version at 3pm (details and booking at https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/kinneil-house ) and/or come on our free outdoor guided walk at 12 noon (details at https://kinneil.org.uk/2026/03/31/free-guided-lunchtime-walks-add-to-saturday-open-days-4/ ).
