Morayvia Moray's Science and Technology Experience Project Morayvia formed in May 2011 to take forward work started by the Nimrod Heritage Group.
(353)

We purchased the last Nimrod in Moray XV244 now named 'Duke of Edinburgh' following approval from Buckingham Palace. We have fielded a mobile aircraft exhibit capability since June 2012 including the largest mobile aircraft section - 40ft of Nimrod XV240. In June 2014 we took a lease on a former primary school site at Kinloss to turn it into a science and technology centre, whilst also progressing

a Community Asset Transfer application for the site with Moray Council. We have acquired other exhibits such as a Green Goddess and a Commer Fire Engine, A redundant Super Puma simulator cockpit donated by Bristow, as well as a Jet Provost and Vampire cockpit. We are pursuing procurement of a Sea King helicopter as this too is a key piece of Moray's aviation history. However, we are also progressing science and technology exhibits, and have secured funding from the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation for a mobile planetarium. Morayvia has been run by volunteers and we know we face a mountain trying to take this project forward but it has to be done, whatever the outcome. Your support can help to move the project forward and give it a greater chance of success.

This is why we built it. ❤️

Morayvia’s memorial was created for moments exactly like this — a permanent place where we can come together to remember, reflect and ensure those we lost are never forgotten.

Yesterday, it was an honour to welcome members of CXX (120) Squadron to Morayvia as they remembered the fourteen personnel who lost their lives aboard Nimrod MR2 XV230 on 2 September 2006.

For Morayvia, and for our community with its deep connection to RAF Kinloss and the Nimrod, their memory will always have a home here.

We built this memorial not simply from stone, but with a purpose — to preserve their memory for generations to come.

To the families, friends, colleagues and Squadron members: Morayvia will always be a place where you can come to remember.

Fourteen lives. Fourteen stories. Never forgotten.

Per Ardua Ad Astra.

🕊️ We will remember them.

Morayvia Remembers — 2 September

Today, 2 September, we pause to remember the crews of 120 Squadron who were lost in two tragic Nimrod accidents, eleven years apart.

Nimrod MR2 XV239 – Crew 9
Lost at Toronto, Canada, on 2 September 1995.

Nimrod MR2 XV230 – Crew 3
Lost over Afghanistan on 2 September 2006.

In both incidents, all crew members were lost.

For Morayvia, with our strong connection to RAF Kinloss, the Nimrod and the men and women who served on 120 Squadron, this anniversary holds particular significance.

We remember not simply the aircraft or the events, but the people — colleagues, friends, husbands, fathers, sons and loved ones — and the families who continue to carry their memory.

Today, we stand together in remembrance of Crew 9 and Crew 3.

Never forgotten.

Per Ardua Ad Astra.

🕊️ We will remember them.

🚁 ZA169 at Morayvia! 🇬🇧

We are delighted to announce that Royal Navy Sea King ZA169 is now safely on her own wheels at Morayvia, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her remarkable story.

This has been a fantastic team effort, and we would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who made this possible.

A huge thank you to RAF Heritage, Steve Brown, RAF Cosford, and the team at HMS Sultan for their outstanding support, expertise and assistance throughout the project. Without their help, this achievement would not have been possible.

Our volunteers are already planning the next phase of work, and before long ZA169 will take her place on public display, where visitors will be able to get up close to this important piece of Royal Navy aviation history.

This is another exciting addition to Morayvia’s growing collection, helping us preserve and share the story of Search and Rescue and military aviation for future generations.

Please like, comment and share this post to help spread the news. We can’t wait to welcome you to see ZA169 on display very soon!
