Happy International Lifeguard Appreciation Day!
Today, our lifeguards are standing with the and all other lifeguard teams to celebrate 25 years of our world-class lifeguard service. For a quarter of a century, these incredible teams have worked tirelessly to keep millions of beachgoers safe across the UK and Channel Islands.
The numbers speak for themselves. Since launching in 2001, RNLI lifeguards nationwide have:
✨ Saved 2,165 lives
✨ Aided over 459,000 people
✨ Responded to 333,000+ incidents
✨ Taken more than 48 million preventative actions
Making an impact locally:
🏖️ On the Wirral RNLI Wirral Lifeguards (patrolling West Kirby, Moreton, Harrison Drive, Leasowe Bay, The Plateaux, & New Brighton since 2015): 3,515 incidents attended, 16,368 people aided, and 18 lives saved.
🏖️ In Sefton (patrolling since 2010): 7,303 incidents attended, 45,955 people aided, and 23 lives saved.
Working side-by-side with both RNLI and independent lifeboat crews as , our lifeguards are true local heroes. Thank you to every lifeguard, past and present, for keeping our coasts safe! 💛
