Happy International Lifeguard Appreciation Day!

Today, our lifeguards are standing with the and all other lifeguard teams to celebrate 25 years of our world-class lifeguard service. For a quarter of a century, these incredible teams have worked tirelessly to keep millions of beachgoers safe across the UK and Channel Islands.

The numbers speak for themselves. Since launching in 2001, RNLI lifeguards nationwide have:
✨ Saved 2,165 lives
✨ Aided over 459,000 people
✨ Responded to 333,000+ incidents
✨ Taken more than 48 million preventative actions

Making an impact locally:
🏖️ On the Wirral RNLI Wirral Lifeguards (patrolling West Kirby, Moreton, Harrison Drive, Leasowe Bay, The Plateaux, & New Brighton since 2015): 3,515 incidents attended, 16,368 people aided, and 18 lives saved.
🏖️ In Sefton (patrolling since 2010): 7,303 incidents attended, 45,955 people aided, and 23 lives saved.

Working side-by-side with both RNLI and independent lifeboat crews as , our lifeguards are true local heroes. Thank you to every lifeguard, past and present, for keeping our coasts safe! 💛

Despite it being rare along our stretch of coast, it's important that we continue to train for every eventuality.

This morning, alongside our local coast recuse officers, some of our lifeguards took part in a joint sandhole collapse training exercise to ensure we're equipped with the knowledge to deal with this infrequent but critical incident.

Starting today, our full summer service is officially LIVE! ☀️

Our lifeguards will be on duty every single day from 10am – 6pm across Southport, Ainsdale, Formby, and Crosby right up until September 6th.

Planning a dip? Here is what you need to know:
🏊‍♂️ Ainsdale & Formby: Your best options for a swim! Always stay between the red and yellow flags.
❌ Crosby: Brilliant for a walk, but please never go in for a swim here due to the dangerous mud and shifting tides.

Got questions about conditions or other water activities? Just ask the team.

Remember: If you or someone else gets into trouble, shout for a lifeguard immediately. No lifeguard nearby? Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Our lifeguards took part in first aid training scenarios over the weekend with supervisors acting as "casualties".

This gives them the skills, confidence and knowledge to deal with incidents when they happen in "real life".

This continues throughout the year and keeps our lifeguards on their toes!

Regular training in a variety of sea conditions allows us to be fully competent if the call for help comes in. 🌊

This morning, in windy and wavy conditions, our team completed a fitness test (200m run then a 200m sea swim followed by another 200m run) followed by general board and swim skills.

See someone in difficulty? Shout for a lifeguard if there's one nearby or dial 999 and ask for the coastguard. 🛟

😎🏖️ Lifeguards are currently on duty at Southport, Ainsdale, Formby, and Crosby beaches. (10am - 6pm)

The Golden Rules:

​🚩 Always swim between the red and yellow flags!
​🙋‍♂️ Always ask lifeguards for help if you need it.
​🦄 Keep inflatables for the swimming pool only—the ocean wind will sweep them away!
​🚫 NEVER enter the water at Crosby beach. Period.
​🗣️ Shout for a lifeguard immediately in an emergency.
​📞 Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if no lifeguard is in sight!
