PUBLIC STATEMENT AND APOLOGY
Angus Medical Services would like to publicly address a recent incident involving comments made on social media concerning Fife Medical Group Ltd and Arbroath Market
Following the concerns raised, the Board of Trustees of Angus Medical Services has reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of our organisation.
We want to make clear that the approach made beneath Arbroath Market's public post, and the pricing representations made within that communication, were not authorised by the Angus Medical Services Board.
Having reviewed the circumstances, we recognise that the approach was inappropriate. In particular, approaching an event organiser beneath a post praising the services of its existing provider was not an appropriate or professional way for our organisation's name to become associated with another provider's established relationship.
We therefore offer our sincere apologies to Fife Medical Services for the impression that Angus Medical Services, through the actions of a third party, was seeking to undermine its work or its relationship with an existing client.
We also offer our sincere apologies to Arbroath Market for being placed in the middle of a situation which it neither created nor should have been expected to deal with.
Angus Medical Services values positive and professional relationships with other organisations providing first aid and welfare services. While organisations may operate at different levels and under different structures, ultimately we share the same fundamental objective: helping people and ensuring appropriate support is available when it is needed.
The Board also recognises that, regardless of who made the original communication, the Angus Medical Services name became associated with it. We therefore have a responsibility to address the matter rather than simply distance ourselves from it.
As a result of our review, we have taken steps to clarify and strengthen the boundaries surrounding who may represent Angus Medical Services, how our name may be used, how potential event opportunities may be referred to us, and who may access or administer our social media and digital accounts.
We have also formalised in writing the boundaries of our existing working relationship with JSA Facilities Management. This agreement has been introduced following this incident as a governance measure going forward; it does not retrospectively authorise the communication that led to this matter.
Angus Medical Services is a small volunteer-run charity providing first aid and welfare support. We are still developing as an organisation, and where an incident identifies weaknesses in our procedures or governance, our responsibility is to recognise them, learn from them and make the necessary improvements.
To Fife Medical Group Ltd, we apologise for the offence and concern caused and for the inappropriate circumstances in which our organisation's name became associated with comments concerning your work.
To Arbroath Market, we apologise for placing you in an unnecessary and uncomfortable position.
We hope that our actions following this incident demonstrate that the Board has taken the concerns raised seriously.
We wish both organisations every success going forward and hope that this matter can now be brought to an appropriate and professional conclusion.
