England’s new £30 million Wildlife-Rich Habitat Fund is another positive signal for landscape-scale nature recovery.

The fund will support nature restoration and the creation of thousands of hectares of new habitat across England’s National Parks, National Landscapes and the Broads over three years, helping to reverse habitat degradation and support long-term species recovery.

With habitat degradation contributing to declines in species such as hedgehogs, water voles and birds including the curlew and turtle dove, this funding aims to revitalise natural landscapes and support threatened species.

We welcome the announcement and hope it encourages others to invest in high-quality, evidence-led nature restoration that delivers lasting benefits for wildlife, landscapes and local communities.

Muirburn surveys are about more than meeting regulations. They are a foundation for responsible, evidence-led land management.

Under the Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024 and NatureScot’s Muirburn Code, measuring peat depths is now an essential step in determining where muirburn can be carried out.

Accurate survey data helps identify where muirburn is permitted, supports licence applications with robust evidence, and gives landowners the confidence to make informed, long-term decisions about their land.

At Caledonian Climate, we combine detailed peat depth assessments with clear reporting and rigorous standards, helping landowners navigate muirburn licensing with the insight and reassurance they need.

World Nature Conservation Day is a reminder that some of our most important habitats sit in plain sight. 🌱

Peatlands cover around 3 million hectares in the UK and are one of our most valuable habitats, offering refuge for specialist wildlife, supporting biodiversity, improving water quality and storing carbon. Yet their significance for nature, climate and communities has long been overlooked.

Across our project portfolio, we have seen first-hand how restoring degraded peatlands creates lasting benefits. At Torrish Phase 1, within the Ben Griams Special Landscape Area, 236.83 hectares of blanket bog have been put on the road to recovery. At Invercassley Phase 1, within the River Oykel Special Area of Conservation, work to enhance wildlife and waterways is supporting long-term ecosystem health.

Today, we are proud to work alongside landowners, contractors, communities and partners to restore these habitats and create the conditions for nature to recover long into the future.

We’re hiring: Fieldwork Manager

We’re looking for an organised, proactive Fieldwork Manager to join the CCP team and help coordinate fieldwork across Scotland’s peatland restoration projects.

This role sits at the heart of our surveying and monitoring work, supporting field teams, managing logistics, overseeing data collection, maintaining safety standards and helping projects run smoothly from the office and on site.

The role includes:
Planning and overseeing fieldwork activitiesLine managing the Fieldwork Coordinator and Fieldwork Assistant
Supporting internal teams and freelance field staff
Setting up survey templates and managing data through QGIS
Coordinating with clients, landowners and stakeholders
Undertaking regular site visits across Scotland

We’re looking for someone with strong people management experience, excellent communication skills, confidence with QGIS, a full driving licence and a safety-first approach to working in remote locations.

Today we’re celebrating 5 years of Caledonian Climate.

Over the past five years, we’ve helped assess more than 20,000 hectares of degraded peatland across Scotland, grown our team from 5 to 15, and supported restoration projects delivering long-term benefits for climate, biodiversity, water management, and rural communities.

We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and grateful to every landowner, contractor, partner, client, and team member who has been part of the journey so far.

A great day spent on the peatlands at our PCoW (Peatland Clerk of Works) Training Day.

Team CCP spent the day sharing lessons learned from the last restoration season, discussing best practice for the year ahead, and getting out on site to see peatland restoration in action.

It was a valuable opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen our approach to project delivery, and continue raising the standard of peatland restoration.

The surprise highlight? A White-tailed Eagle soaring overhead during the site visit.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, and especially to Garth, Ewan and Rob for sharing their knowledge and experience.

We’re hiring: Peatland Restoration Skills Development Intern

Are you a passionate individual keen to establish a career in peatland restoration?

Scotland’s peatlands store more carbon than any other habitat on land, yet up to 80% are degraded. At Caledonian Climate Partners, we’re working to restore these degraded landscapes, and we’re looking for someone to join us for six months of hands-on experience on live peatland restoration projects.

During the internship, you’ll build real skills across:
• Ecological surveys
• Peat depth and condition assessments
• QGIS mapping
• Site monitoring
• Contractor liaison

All with the backing of structured mentoring and specialist training from a team of experts. It’s a genuine foundation for a career in peatland restoration, environmental data, or wider consultancy.

We’re after a motivated professional with a real interest in ecology and spatial data, a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, and a full UK driving licence. Degree-level study or equivalent experience welcome.
