We are calling on the Government to break barriers between job-seekers and employment- not build them. There must be greater clarity around long-term funding for specialist employment services that are essential to help long-term unemployed people find and maintain work. 3.5 million unemployed people desire to work but sadly, for many, the one-size-fits-all system simply doesn't enable them to do so.
-
For example, people who are experiencing homelessness, living with disability or who have been long-term carers understandably need a more tailored approach to job support. Furthermore, the recent changes to health and disability benefits could leave even less support for those facing the toughest barriers into work.
-
Our Employment Plus service has proved that quality, tailored support enables people who have experienced long term unemployment gain lasting, meaningful employment. Therefore, we believe that supporting people to overcome barriers to the job market is the way forward and will save the Government money in the long term. Any changes to the health and disability benefits system must be matched by funding that focuses on tailored, human-centred support, job creation and flexible, suitable work.
