A new scientific review, commissioned by Natural England and undertaken by the GWCT, suggests pheasant releasing is having no significant impact on insect populations.

Negative effects were only detected at sites where gamebirds congregated in higher densities, such as in release pens and around feeders, and studies showed that well-managed releasing can minimise these local impacts.

A problem is brewing in the undergrowth… The familiar buzz of solitary bees, the pollinators behind so many of our crops, is at risk. Since 1980, their numbers have dropped by a worrying 32%. Our scientists believe a crucial piece of the puzzle has been overlooked.

Early findings suggest a simple but effective solution: creating safe places for solitary bees to nest in the ground. These bees don’t live in hives, they rely on tiny patches of bare soil to rest and lay their eggs.

With your support, we can test this solution across British farmland and gather the evidence needed to help solitary bees recover from the ground up.

🌼 Please support our appeal today and help create space for solitary bees: https://www.gwct.org.uk/donate/current-appeals/solitary-bee-appeal/

Could the curlew appear on a UK banknote? 💷🪶
The Bank of England has launched a public consultation asking which UK wildlife species should feature on the next banknotes — and we know which bird gets our vote.
The curlew is one of the UK’s most recognisable and loved birds, but also one of its most threatened. In Wales, breeding curlew could be lost by 2033 unless we act now.
Projects like Gwlad y Gylfinir – Land of the Curlew are helping secure a future for this iconic species. If you’re casting your vote, don’t forget the curlew. You have until 3rd July.
Our project is supported with funding from Natural England. https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/help-us-design-our-next-series-of-banknotes/celebrate-uk-wildlife
