Just the most AWESOME experience for our Squirrels! We got the chance to speak to a real life astronaut! A big THANK YOU to Dr. Jenni Gibbons for meeting us online and answering some of our questions about what it’s like to be an astronaut! Our young people are so lucky to be able to learn through conversations and experiences with real people! 🤩 🚀

So… apparently we’re the new Group Lead Volunteers!

After 41 years of combined Scouting experience, countless camps, activities, badges, meetings, late nights and probably far too many questionable decisions… we thought it was probably time we took on a little bit more responsibility. 😂

We’re very excited (and maybe just a tiny bit terrified 👀) to introduce ourselves, as the new Group Lead Volunteers for 11th Folkestone! 🏕️

We’ve both been in Scouting since our Beaver days, with Ali hitting 21 years in Scouting and Beckie 20 years. Scouting has been such a huge part of both our lives, and 11th Folkestone has been a massive part of that journey.

We’ve grown up through the sections, made some of our best memories, had way too much fun along the way and now somehow we’ve ended up in charge… 😂

And if you needed any more proof of our extensive Scouting credentials… we’ve actually won the “Seat of Learning Award” twice. For those who don’t know… it is quite literally a toilet seat. 😂

We’re really looking forward to taking on the role, working with our brilliant leaders, getting stuck into new ideas and making sure our young people continue to have the best experiences possible.

And of course, a massive thank you to Craig for everything he has done as GLV. Thank you for all the time, effort and energy you’ve put into 11th Folkestone. We’ve got some pretty big boots to fill, but we’re excited to take on the challenge! (And we are very lucky he will continue to support us in our roles moving forward!)

So here’s to the next chapter of 11th Folkestone! Wish us luck… we’re going to need it! 🫡

Ali and Beckie :)
