These pictures show part of Nissan Island in Bougainville (Near PNG).

For years, the only option to reach the nearest town has been a four-hour boat ride across dangerous open ocean, with many boats and sailors going missing during these times. In fact, in one photo you can see Loretta from the island showing the extent of the missing vessels.

Now, MAF flights are offering the community a safer way to access vital services unavailable on the remote island, providing a much needed lifeline.

Travel with Allan from the Ground operations team at MAF as he goes on one of the first flights made by MAF in Bougainville (an autonomous region in Papua New Guinea) travelling from Buka to Buin.

These new flights give a chance for MAF to help more isolated communities within the region, providing access to medical care, education and life-saving cargo.

For years, Waiki in Papua New Guinea has struggled to access basic goods and services because of its remote location, with responsibility for the community often falling between provincial boundaries.

Since an airstrip was built, development has slowly reached Waiki, but reliable communication remained a major challenge.

MAF Technologies recently installed an HF radio, giving a reliable lifeline to communicate, arrange flights and access vital services.

Speaking on behalf of the community, MAF Agent and spokesperson Jacob Joseph expresses his heartfelt gratitude for the new communication system and the difference it will make.

Saturday saw the launch of the Mission Aviation Academy (MAA) within MAF. 🥳

Dr Jo Salter (The first female British Fighter Pilot) officially opened the MAA by piloting a Diamond DA42 Twin star aircraft, which was also marking Girls in Aviation Day, at Cranfield Airport in Bedfordshire.

The day gave those attending the chance to speak to some of the trainees already involved within the MAA, venture around different planes and have the chance to learn more about the vital work of MAF globally.

The MAA brings together the Engineer Training Scheme, Future Pilot Programme and the brand new Pilot Progression Pathway to create new avenues for young people and young adults to become pilots and engineers.
