We’ve just published our second CEO Insight, and this one focuses on something we see every day at Touchbase: the difference between access and belonging.

Access gets someone into the room.
Belonging gives them the confidence to stay, contribute and shape their own path.

In this Insight, I talk about the impact of assumptions, why systems must be designed with people, and how we’re working alongside our members to build a culture where everyone is seen, heard and valued.

I also share some of the ways we do this in practice, including individual conversations with every member, regular surveys, and the development of our new Members’ Forum.

🌟 Recipe of the Week: Sushi! 🍣

This week, we got creative in the kitchen and tried our hand at making delicious homemade sushi rolls! Using sticky rice, seaweed sheets, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, chives, and smoked salmon, everyone had the opportunity to explore new flavours while developing a range of practical cooking skills.

We began by preparing the sticky rice, allowing it to cook for 20 minutes while we carefully chopped all of our ingredients into fine pieces. Once everything was ready, we delicately layered the rice and fillings onto the seaweed sheets, taking care not to overfill them and risk the rolls splitting open.

The most exciting part was rolling the sushi and slicing it into perfect bite-sized pieces. This activity required plenty of concentration, patience, and dexterity, giving everyone a great opportunity to practise their fine motor skills while having fun.

Not only did this activity encourage creativity and following instructions, but it also helped build confidence in trying something new. Best of all, everyone enjoyed tasting their finished creations and sharing the experience together!

What a fantastic way to explore different cultures through food. ❤️🍣

As shown, Richard wanted to show everyone his string pull painting! 🎨💙

By pulling a paint covered string across the paper, he created sweeping textures and curved shapes in a striking shade of deep blue. The finished piece is full of energy and expression, with every mark showing the movement used to create it.
This activity was a fun sensory and creative experience that encouraged experimentation and freedom through art.
Richard really enjoyed this activity, he practised his hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and concentration exploring art in his own unique way. ✨🖌️

Well done to Kevin for designing his very own allotment garden 🌻🌿
Kevin spent lots of time concentrating carefully on this artwork, exploring all of his favourite things he would love to grow in his dream allotment. He thoughtfully included a variety of flowers, plants and vegetables, as well as special features such as a pond, bat boxes, and a relaxing table and chairs area to enjoy the outdoors.
This was such a fun and creative experience as Kevin was able to use his imagination, make independent choices and bring his ideas to life through art and design. He showed fantastic focus, patience and attention to detail throughout the activity.

Last week we went to Butlins for our first Touchbase holiday of 2026 and we all had the best time! ☀️
From bingo, shuffleboard, bowling and laser tag to go karts and an escape room, there was never a dull moment. Most importantly, it was so lovely to see everyone enjoying each other’s company, building friendships, gaining self esteem and making the most of every moment together.

Seeing so many smiles throughout the week made it extra special for all of us. We’re already counting down the days until we take another group back in September! ❤️
