The latest instalment of Dears’ Diaries is here. This week, core company member Miranda Orton reflects on ageing, ageism and the process of creating We’ll Take It From Here, Dear.

She shares how being part of Moving Memory has helped her reclaim a sense of identity and why she wants audiences to question their assumptions about older women.

"It's given me an amazing identity."

We’re really pleased to be sharing a new film by Folkestone-based artist Sue Bridge as part of We’ll Take It From Here, Dear 💛

Created in response to the choreography and themes of the piece, the film was developed through in situ drawings made during rehearsals. Placing older women centre stage, the work celebrates their strength, power and grace.

“As a visual artist, I was very moved by the physical gestures of the performers at Moving Memory - women putting their hands up to be noticed, shrinking themselves, then suddenly taking up space unapologetically. Those moments translated very powerfully into animation because movement can express things words sometimes can’t.”

The film will be screened as part of We’ll Take It From Here, Dear on 17 June at The Grand, Folkestone as part of Wavelengths festival.

Generously supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Throwback to The Devil’s Doorbell, performed across Kent in 2024. 💛

'Drawing on the roles and personas ascribed to women throughout their lives, the show explores the absurdities and injustices conferred upon women’s bodies, serving up a surprising and provocative experience laced with laughter and the moving messiness of life.

Not afraid to delve deep, the unspeakable may be spoken.'
