Hugo stepped into the boxing ring to raise funds for The Charity last Friday, in memory of his mum, Sophie Kinsella.

Sophie Kinsella was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in late 2022 and sadly passed away in December last year. Sophie worked closely with The Charity to raise vital awareness of brain tumours and the work we do.

With his younger brother Oscar already having completed a half-marathon earlier this year, Hugo upped the stakes by taking part in a boxing fundraiser at The Troxy in Limehouse.

Lacing up his gloves is definitely out of his comfort zone: “I’ve never loved cardio training, I’m more of a weight training guy; doing stuff like training for halves or marathons (ahem, Oscar) is a popular route but it’s not me. When training for an event like this, it’s easier to stay motivated and on track than knowing that, regardless of cause or fundraising or anything like that, if I slack off I will get punished for it with a punch in the face. Nothing focuses the mind quite like that!”

Thank you, Hugo, for supporting The Charity and raising vital funds and awareness in memory of Sophie. You can read more by heading to the link below.

“My dad’s a big family man, always at the end of the phone when you need him. He’s incredibly sociable and has an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he goes.”

Pippa Wade, a scientist who has worked in brain cancer research, has a greater understanding of brain tumours than most. But nothing could prepare her for a devastating diagnosis close to home. In December 2024, following a number of partial seizures, her dad Cameron learned he had a glioblastoma.

“Our world changed overnight,” said Pippa, 29. “I always knew treatment options were limited, but sitting in the room when a terminal prognosis is delivered, and hearing that there may not be another option if treatment doesn’t work, is shocking.”

Earlier this year, Pippa took on the London Marathon for The Charity.

“Running the marathon for my dad meant so much. It was a way of honouring him - his determination, his resilience, and everything he’s done for me.

“And It felt like a small way to contribute to something bigger – supporting research, improving understanding, and hopefully helping families like mine.”

This Father’s Day, we’re thinking of those who are facing their own diagnosis or supporting a loved one through theirs, and those we've sadly lost to this devastating disease. Today, we're celebrating you.

“If me doing this silly challenge helps to raise awareness for brain tumours and the signs and symptoms to look out for, then that's great.” - Bradley

Freya was diagnosed with a brain tumour after having a CT scan due to taking a tumble on Father’s Day last year. “In A&E, they did a CT scan, looking for a chipped bone or bleed, but were totally surprised by the huge frontal lobe tumour taking over her head space.”

After the discovery, events moved very quickly. Freya underwent emergency surgery within 4 days. The surgery needed to happen swiftly because the tumour was fracturing her skull. Freya “is doing okay, but life will never be the same.”

Determined to give back to the charities that supported his family, Bradley is running 7 marathons in 7 days from 15-21 June.

“This year, the 15th of June 2026 is a Monday (a year to the date we found out), and Father's Day is on the Sunday 21st June 2026 (Father's Day also being the day we found out) so this just made sense to me to run this challenge over this week, a week that will be engrained in our minds and hearts for the rest of our lives.”

Thank you so much, Bradley, for your determination and commitment to improving the lives of those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Yesterday MPs debated research into brain cancer and the need for unlocking innovation to deliver more treatment options. Congratulations to for securing the debate following their petition that gathered over 100,000 signatures.

Thank you to Paul Davies MP for leading on the debate and for highlighting the need to address challenges linked to the translational research pathway and for the need to improve incentives to attract industry investment into brain tumour research.

We were glad to see the debate include mentions of the impact a lack of access to new treatments and whole genome sequencing has on the community and the wider financial impact of a brain tumour diagnosis. Thank you to all MPs who attended.

This debate raised awareness of the challenges too many face throughout their brain tumour journey, and we were pleased to see the Minister Sharon Hodgson MP support for turning terminal into treatment. The Brain Tumour Charity will continue to advocate and support government to share more to ensure this is achieved.

“Treating high-risk medulloblastoma was never going to be easy, but this trial gave us an opportunity that we couldn’t turn down.” - Kirsty

Brain tumours are still one of the hardest cancers to treat, with limited options for too many families.
Reggie was just four when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, but research gave his family hope.

After brain tumour surgery, Reggie was offered a place on a clinical trial. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it gave Reggie something every family hopes for: a chance.

Right now, you could give that chance to more families. Donate to The Brain Tumour Charity via the Big Give before 12.00 pm (midday) on 17 June your donation will be doubled at no extra cost to you.

“Every advance we’ve made in treating childhood brain tumours has come through research like this. Clinical trials like this are essential to improve survival while protecting quality of life.”

Reggie was able to take part in an international high-risk medulloblastoma trial, which compares different treatment strategies for children with high-risk medulloblastoma to improve both survival and quality of life.

It wasn’t an easy decision, but it gave Reggie something every family hopes for: a chance.

Right now, when you donate to The Brain Tumour Charity via Big Give before 12.00 pm (midday) on 17 June, your donation will be doubled at no extra cost to you.

Every donation helps fund vital research, improve access to clinical trials and give families hope when they need it most. Together, we can change what happens next for everyone affected by a brain tumour.

When Matt started having panic attacks in 2017, no one expected it would lead to a brain tumour diagnosis.

After months of uncertainty, lost scans, and waiting, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma.

Since then, he’s had multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and faced the challenges that come with it.
For his wife, Melissa, advocating and caring for Matt “is an honour” and this she is sharing her experience.

You may not consider yourself to be a carer. But if you’re helping care for a loved one, it’s important to look after yourself too.

We have a range of resources available to support people who are caring for someone with a brain tumour diagnosis.
