“I wanted to become a Young Ambassador because I want to have a positive impact The Brain Tumour Charity and those in need of support. Awareness and research for brain tumours are urgently needed, so to have the opportunity to support the charity has been hugely important to me."

Post brain surgery, Owen couldn't walk or speak, except for the word 'yes'. After receiving his British Citizen Award this week, he explained just how important joining The Brain Tumour Charity family is to him, and why he continues to advocate for change and awareness. A huge congratulations and thank you Owen 🙌

Get to know... Mel!

“Following my own diagnosis, I took on the challenge to help the charities and people who’ve helped me recover and find my new normal! So now being a YA, I want to make as much of a positive change as I can, helping people who may be recently diagnosed, or connecting with people who have already been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis to help make a difference.”

Last Friday was so unbelievably cool and here's why...

The Brain Tumour Charity welcomed us (Owen, Molly, Lucy & Emma) alongside Involvement Champions and Future Leaders for a collaborative event in London.

The day bridged the gap between community and researchers, discussing mutual challenges, new ideas and learning from eachother.

The room was absolutely BUZZING with ideas and we know we will be for a long time!

These projects are right at the forefront of knowledge and technology because a cure for brain tumours can't wait.

What an absolute privilege to be amongst The Brain Tumour Charity team, the community and top researchers into brain tumours globally.

Massive congratulations Alex Preston and Annabel Preston!!

Thank you to everyone who's donated so far, together, we've already raised over £30,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity, funding vital research for one of the most underfunded and devastating cancers.

But this doesn't stop at the finish line.

🧠Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40

💷 Yet research receives just 3% of national cancer funding

📉 Only 12% of people survive 5+ years

📊 Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by 27 years on average the highest of any cancer

1 year in and what better time to share a fundraising update from us Young Ambassadors?

Back in our induction, together we set our goal at £25,000. We have some VERY passionate fundraisers on our team so we really hoped we'd achieve it, or go beyond!

Not only did we set the bar high, but we've managed to smash the target halfway through the programme!

Just a few fundraisers have included:
✔️ Raffles
✔️ Bake sales
✔️ Pub quizzes
✔️ Head shaves
✔️ Sky dives
✔️ Sports events
✔️ Jewellery sales
✔️ Non-school uniform days
And of course, The Twilight Walk!

A huge well done and thank you to all of the YAMs, family, friends, companies and communities who have made this happen.

As the largest dedicated fundraiser of research into brain tumours in the UK, these funds for The Brain Tumour Charity are essential - a cure can't wait.

Get to know Young Ambassador, Owen!

"I wanted to become a young ambassador to make friends that have similar experiences as me and raise a lot of money. Upon meeting the other ambassadors I walked into the room it felt like already I already had 20+ friends for life.

It’s already been life changing meeting everyone and I am so grateful to the charity for giving me this opportunity!

We’ve raised 25k already and raised so much awareness! I’m very proud of the group and look forward to what’s next."

Get to know: Lucy!

“As a young person with a brain tumour, I want to spread awareness about this issue and advocate for better medical and mental health awareness for people with brain tumours, and people who know someone with a brain tumour. Having struggled to find resources myself, The Brain Tumour Charity has played an important role in my journey, and I hope to be a part of the incredible effort towards change.

"I am more than my brain tumour. I am a sister and a daughter, I have a dog named Milo, I love watching the latest tv shows and playing video games. Despite my brain tumour, I try and live a normal life whilst under the ‘Watch and Wait’ approach, which at times can be hard."

Get to know: Rebecca!

"This is a cause close to my heart because I received a brain tumour diagnosis at the age of 10, and I truly understand how isolating and traumatic this illness and its side effects can be. It's a real privilege to be involved in the charity's campaign work, and also getting to engage with other young adults that are going through similar experiences."
