The Makaton Charity Transforming lives through communication
(1)

Makaton is a language programme that combines signs, symbols and speech to empower anyone living with learning or communication difficulties to understand and be understood. Makaton has brought positive transformation to millions of lives by giving people a way to express themselves independently, overcoming frustration and promoting inclusion. There are currently in excess of 2.2 million people i

n the UK with speech, language and communication difficulties and over 1 million Makaton users. The Makaton Charity exists to ensure that everyone living with learning or communication difficulties has the tools and resources they need to understand and be understood. The Charity curates and promotes the Makaton Language Programme, trains and supports the Licensed Makaton Tutor network, and provides tools to enhance the learning and usage of Makaton. Visit our website makaton.org to find out more about the impact Makaton has on beneficiaries and their families or support networks.

It's and we are joining our friends at Mencap to celebrate the things that people with a learning disability bring to society and challenge the barriers that people with a learning disability face.

This year's theme is "Do you see me?", which is all about people with a learning disability being seen, heard and valued.

How has Makaton helped you, your family or the people you support to be seen, heard and valued? We'd love to hear your story in the comments below.

Two weeks on from MakaHike, the aching legs have (hopefully!) recovered, the walking boots have been put away, and our amazing team have had a chance to soak up what they achieved.

Looking back through these photos, we're reminded of the stunning views, the determination shown on every step of the climb, and the incredible sense of achievement at the summit.

We're so proud of the team who took on Snowdon to raise funds for The Makaton Charity. Their brilliant efforts will help us continue supporting people to communicate, connect and be understood.

If you've been enjoying the MakaHike updates and have been meaning to sponsor the team, it's not too late to show your support. Every donation, big and small, helps make a difference.
