Flashback to a trip into the Nottingham caves. A great place to visit if you haven't been.
The caves were used as a WWII bomb shelter and there have been many reports of people hearing disembodied voices, unexplained explosions, and the phantom sensation of being showered with falling stones.
The ghost of a crying woman in Victorian clothing has also been spotted in the darkness.

The Caves underneath Nottingham are very deep and many are interconnected.

Nearby, there are several other sites that have underground caves and tunnels;
The Galleries of Justice sits on a site used as a Saxon prison since 1449, the deep caves and subterranean cells here are infamous.
Nottingham Castle- Mortimer’s Hole is an infamous secret passageway said to be haunted by Sir Roger Mortimer.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and Ye Olde Salutation Inn both have historic interconnected caves acting as cellars for the inns.
With all this history and expansive cave system, it is no wonder that there are so many reports of ghostly sightings, unexplained noises and general feelings of unease.

...and a cheeky little cemetery stop on the way home which proved rather interesting... In addition to other things, we both witnessed a dark shadow 'walking' in between graves. There was no one else there but us and we had a very clear view. 🤔

I just had to revisit W***y Wilcox's cave today!

During the 18th century it is said that a smuggler called William Wilcox lived in the cottage above the cave and conveniently used it to store his contraband.Wilcox is said to have dug a secret tunnel connecting his cottage to the cave so that he could move his illegal goods unobserved.

There are several stories about how William died - one is that W***y was moving his contraband and somehow became trapped inside and was drowned. Another is that he was actually using the cave to hide from the customs officials that were pursuing him and couldn’t escape the incoming tide.

By far the strangest tale about Wilcox is that he entered his cave and somehow became hopelessly lost in a labyrinth of passages that he had dug. He never found his way out and his restless spirit can still be heard moaning inside the dark cavern.

A tourist even claims to have captured Wilcox on a photo he took of the cave! (Photo included with my photos below)

The Three Pilchards is one of the oldest pubs in the Cornish village of Polperro, dating back to the 16th century and certainly has a colourful past! So it's no surprise that this place is haunted!

It's reputed to be haunted by a woman killed by her husband in the 19th century, and her son who tried to protect her, but sadly was killed alongside his mother.
Visitors and staff have reported hearing the sounds of a struggle, followed by cries of a ghostly woman on the pub's second floor, a tale sometimes linked to an ill-tempered landlord.

There are also reports of a lady milking a cow in the yard, and a jolly man who sits at the end of the bar!

It wouldn't be a trip to Polperro without a stop off at The Crumplehorn Inn & Mill!
The Inn is reportedly haunted by several spirits, including a WWI deserter heard in the loft and the ghost of Zephaniah Job -a 18th-century "smugglers' banker".
Guests and staff have reported doors opening on their own, whispering voices, and the smell of cigar smoke.

Just some of the activity experienced -

Whispering voices heard in the loft are often attributed to a World War I deserter who hid there.
Zephaniah Job: The former owner of the Mill house (before it became an inn in 1972) and banker to smugglers, whose presence is believed to linger.
Reports include doors opening and closing, a figure holding a cigarette to their head, and mysterious footsteps.
A previous owner reported smelling cigar smoke, and a barmaid reported a door opening and closing by itself.

I absolutely love this ancient house in Padstow and always have to stop and admire it. It just draws me in! It is said to be the oldest house in Cornwall and even in the days of Queen Elizabeth I the house was described as old. Abbey House was owned by the Prideaux family and legend is that it has a tunnel that runs from the house to the monastery up the hill.

And it goes without saying that this house has a resident Ghost!

The ghost that haunts Abbey House is said to be an Elizabethan lady who appears to be rather sad and lonely . She has been seen ascending the 15th century granite stairway from the cellar and silently makes her way along a passage which forms the oldest part of the house.

From 1938 to 1981 the house was occupied by a reclusive widow named Annie Simpson and it is said that she is a familiar figure seen standing in the gallery window overlooking the harbour. The rumour was that she was awaiting the return of her husband who was lost at sea; the truth was he had been killed in a car crash shortly after they bought the house.
