Compassion UK Releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name. Every child born into poverty faces a unique combination of challenges.

Founded in 1952, Compassion is a leading Christian child development ministry committed to releasing children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty in Jesus’ name. To do this, Compassion partners with 8,500+ churches in more than 25 countries around the world to deliver our holistic child development programme. That’s why our programme doesn’t just care for one area of a child’s li

fe, giving them food or education in isolation, for example. Instead, our holistic child development programme empowers a child to overcome poverty in every area of their lives. We believe caring for a child’s mind, body, heart and spirit is the most effective way to release them from poverty, for good! We are Christ-centred: We believe that the Church is the hope of the world. We run our programmes in exclusive partnership with more than 8,500 local churches because they know their communities inside out. We’re church-based: Jesus is at the heart of what we do. Our programmes show God’s love for children born into extreme poverty. Whilst Christ’s love motivates us, we help children and families from all backgrounds, regardless of belief. We’re child-focused: We intentionally focus on caring for children most vulnerable to the devastating effects of poverty. We support children in every area of their lives, tackling the root causes of poverty that hold them back. We are committed to integrity: We’re committed to handling the finances entrusted to us with the utmost integrity. Your donations are used wisely and strategically, and always for the greatest benefit of children in poverty. Compassion connects you and the church around the world to end poverty in the life of a child, in Jesus' name. Learn more about what we do at: compassionuk.org

What do you think about when you hear the word ‘poverty’?

We may think it’s not having enough money, but it is so much more than that.

Poverty is hunger, it’s being sick without access to medical care, it’s a child missing out on education.

But, as Compassion photojournalist Nico puts it: “poverty is a call to action: to build a world where everyone has enough to eat, to learn, to hope and to dream with Jesus”.

That’s why we move with compassion, to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Will you join us?

Sometimes, hope arrives in something as simple as a basket of food.

Six months ago, 15-year-old Dayana lost her father, the family's main provider. Her mother, Maria, was suddenly left caring for several children and grandchildren, doing everything she could to keep the family afloat and nourished.

But they didn't face their grief alone.

Dayana's local Compassion project stepped in with food baskets, prayer, and regular visits. It gave her family a hope, as Dayana reflects:

”We never felt alone. They’ve always helped us as a true family in Christ. God knew we’d go through these things, and He sent the people from the centre”.

Today, on , we stand with families around the world who are facing hunger and uncertainty. 💙

For 12 years, Bontu's mornings began before dawn at a searing stove.

From the age of seven, her childhood was exchanged for forced labour. Though she was a scholar at heart, her dreams of an education felt impossibly far away.

When conditions pushed her to breaking point, a local church community in Seka, Ethiopia, stepped in.

Through Compassion's Survival initiative, Bontu received the nutrition, healthcare, and dignity she had long been denied. And for the first time in years, someone looked at her and spoke about her future.

"I have made a promise," says Aneni, her Survival Implementer. "Bontu will not just survive - she will finish."

Today, Bontu is a mother raising her daughter, Bilise, with hope. There's a desk waiting for her in a classroom, and a community committed to making sure she gets there. "Ever since I came to the church, my life has found its true path," she tells us.

This is what it looks like when the local church refuses to let potential go to waste.

Every day, 2.1 billion people wake up without access to safe drinking water. Women and children around the world spend a staggering 200 million hours every day just collecting it, which is time stolen from school, from play, from childhood itself.

Through our Water Interventions, Compassion and our local church partners are building wells, water tanks, and latrines in some of the world's most vulnerable communities.

When clean water arrives, everything changes. Children stay in school, families stay healthy, and children get their futures back.

This Sunday, will you pray with us for the millions still waiting for safe water?

We’re so grateful for Gladys sharing her story at this weekend.

We know many women will be deeply moved by her testimony and inspired by the way God has worked in her life.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to visit the doctor when they get sick.

As part of the Compassion programme, children receive medical checks from trusted healthcare professionals through their local church.

For Rosa, this meant a weight was lifted from her shoulders when her two-year-old daughter, Lisbeth, became unwell.

Because when you move with compassion, families don’t have to face moments like these alone.

From the nightclub to the pulpit 🙏

After struggling for many years with addiction, Stephen from Uganda encountered Jesus powerfully. He began a new journey of faith that led him into church ministry. Today Pastor Stephen leads a thriving church and community ministry that’s releasing hundreds of children from poverty.

"I've learnt that faith without action is dead," he shares. "Compassion has given our church the resources to support children in every way: spiritually, socially, physically, and academically. Their partnership has allowed us to put our faith into action and truly walk alongside these children."
Inspired by Compassion's approach to child development, Pastor Stephen established the Miriam project, an initiative providing local children with food and access to schooling. "With Compassion, I learnt how to mobilise local resources," Stephen reflects.

As a result of this growing local capacity, Stephen’s church is preparing to transition out of its partnership with Compassion, continuing their work independently. Please join us in praying for Pastor Stephen and his church as they step into this next season of caring for their community.

Do you remember being asked, "What do you want to do when you grow up?"

For many children facing extreme poverty, daring to hope in that answer can feel impossible.

At her local Compassion project in Rwanda, Amina was given a book called *My Plan for Tomorrow,* which encouraged her to write her dream for the future. She wrote that she wanted to be a business person.

God had a plan for Amina's life. Today, her social enterprise has changed the lives of over 10,000 women and girls across Rwanda.

Reflecting on her journey, Amina shared "The hope I received is now being passed along”.

For years, Mauricia prayed one prayer: that her family would come to know God.

She never expected her children would lead the way.

When Junior and Genesis joined their local Compassion project in Peru, their faith began to grow and it didn’t stay within the project walls. It overflowed into their home.

Their joy caught their father Alejandro’s attention. A man who never wanted to go to church, slowly began attending meetings, then services, until one day he stood in baptism and shared how God had changed his life through his children.

"My family has changed completely," shared Junior, aged 13 💛

Today, Mauricia mentors other mothers at the centre. Alejandro serves alongside her. Junior and Genesis are growing in their gifts and their faith.

This , we’re celebrating the people who help shape our faith, encourage us and point us towards hope.

Whose faith has impacted your family story?
