Calls And Visits We are a local voluntary group operating in Hart district. Calls and Visits is a voluntary group operating in Fleet and Church Crookham, Hampshire.

We aim to provide regular and reliable contact with the world beyond the walls of home for those of any age who find it difficult to get out and about. Calls and Visits is part of the Good Neighbours Network which has operated in Hampshire for over 40 years, with tried and tested Safeguarding training, procedures and policies. Registered Charity No 1145162 www.goodneighbours.org.uk. We take up references and DBS checks on our volunteers and they are given Safeguarding training.

Ex-military, former carers, a nurse, teachers... these are just some of the people who have worked hard for the benefit of our community and are now in need of some companionship and support themselves. No-one should spend most of their time alone.

Our befriending service is FREE to our service users, but there are costs involved in making sure we can support people safely and reliably. We receive no central funding and have recently been subject to further budget cuts.

Donations are now more vital than ever to help us meet everyday expenses. Would you donate to help us continue supporting people living with loneliness?

For example:
📞 £9 could cover our phone bill for a month
👥 £30 could help cover the induction, training & DBS check for a new volunteer
🛡️ £200 could cover our annual group insurance

Every contribution, large or small, helps us continue providing regular phone calls and face-to-face visits for people who are unable to get out and may otherwise experience prolonged isolation.

Your money will help us keep our service free and continue matching local people with volunteers who can offer something incredibly valuable — their time, company and conversation 💚💙

In this heat, many of us are staying indoors and taking things a little more slowly ☀️

For some people though, being unable to get out and feeling cut off from others is not just because of the weather — it can be their everyday reality 😞.

At Calls And Visits, we offer free befriending support to adults in Fleet and the surrounding areas who live in isolation because they are unable to get out easily, due to physical limitations, frailty or caring responsibilities.

Through a weekly phone call or face-to-face visit, our volunteers offer companionship, conversation and a friendly connection in the local community 💚💙

Volunteer spotlight: Craig 💚💙

It’s National Volunteers’ Week and this month, we’re sharing a few words from one of our fabulous team, Craig, to give a flavour of what volunteering with Calls & Visits is really like 😊.

🟢 Why did you get involved with Calls & Visits? 🟢

“I wanted to do something useful in my local community and give a bit of my time to someone who might need it. I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and hearing about their lives, but what really stayed with me was thinking about how hard it must be to be at home with little or no contact with other people. I felt that if I could help in even a small way, it was worth doing.”

🟢 What does your volunteering involve? 🟢

“I visit someone once a week for around 90 minutes. There’s no set agenda — we usually sit and chat about whatever comes up. It might be what she’s been doing that week, memories from when she was growing up, stories about her family, or lovely memories of her late husband. It’s about spending time with someone, listening, chatting and giving them a bit of regular company.”

🟢What would you say to someone considering volunteering?🟢

“Definitely do it. You don’t need any special skills and you don’t need to have anything planned or prepared. Just being willing to turn up, have a chat, listen and give someone your time can make a real difference. It’s a small commitment, but it can mean a lot to someone who may not have many visitors or regular contact with others.”

It was lovely to bring our Calls And Visits volunteers together for a catch-up over a pub lunch earlier this month 😊💚💙.

As a charity, we’re so grateful for the time, care and kindness our volunteers give to people in our local communities who may otherwise go without regular company and conversation. While much of our befriending happens one-to-one, it’s also important for our volunteers to have opportunities to come together, share experiences and enjoy each other’s company too.

These social get-togethers are a small but meaningful way to say thank you, welcome new faces and celebrate the difference our team is making 🤗.

We are always inspired by the compassion of our volunteers and the friendships that grow through Calls And Visits — both with the people they support and within the team itself.
