A HUGE THANK YOU TO FLAMBOROUGH BIRD OBSERVATORY! 🧡

Flamborough RNLI would like to say a massive thank you to Flamborough Bird Observatory for all their fantastic support during our Cake Weekend, especially during their busy and hugely popular .

We were delighted that we had nearly 100 visitors enjoying cakes, with some telling us they had deliberately booked the second weekend of MigWeek so they could make sure they got their cake fix too!

It’s wonderful to see such fantastic support from our local community and visitors alike. Your kindness, generosity and enthusiasm mean so much to our volunteer crew and help support our work saving lives at sea.

Shout: Flamborough RNLI, B-959 Forever Yibba launched on service today at 12:15pm. Tasked to carry out a shoreline search of an area of Bempton cliffs as part of a multi-agency search for a missing person.

Flamborough RNLI lifeboat B-959 was stood down at 2:45pm after the casualty was located by HM Coastguard. Lifeboat with volunteer crew returned safely to station at South Landing at 3:00pm.

Lifeboat crew and shore crew then cleaned and re fuelled the lifeboat and launching tractor in preparation for the next shout.

Volunteer lifeboat crew worked alongside HM Coastguard helicopter and HM Coastguard rescue teams to bring three people to safety

Shout: Flamborough RNLI, B-959 Forever Yibba launched on service today (Saturday 10th October) at 3:45pm following a report of three persons cut off by the tide at Thornwick bay. The casualties were young men aged between 20 & 25. HM Coastguard helicopter was also tasked.
On arrival at the scene at 4pm two casualties were clinging to a rock at the bottom of the cliffs, a third casualty was further out in the water. The casualty in the water was taken aboard the lifeboat. He was conscious but had swallowed a lot of water and in need of urgent medical attention. The casualty was winched up to the helicopter and taken to the cliff tops to awaiting HM Coastguard Rescue Team.
Due to the overhang of the cliffs it was impossible to winch the other two casualties from the cliff bottom so the decision was made to take the lifeboat in to extract the casualties. Both casualties were successfully taken on board the lifeboat and taken clear of the cliffs where they were winched to the helicopter. Flamborough RNLI lifeboat B-959 and volunteer crew were stood down and returned safely to station at South Landing at 5:30pm.
Lifeboat crew and shore crew then cleaned and re fuelled the lifeboat and launching tractor in preparation for the next shout.

A wonderful piece of Flamborough RNLI history

A huge thank you to Mrs T. F. Robinson for sharing these fantastic photographs from October 1992 (Oakley class) and May 1994(Atlantic 75), showing the Flamborough lifeboat and volunteer crew carrying out operations at sea and on the shore.

It’s brilliant to see these historic images and help preserve and share a little piece of the station’s past.

We’re very grateful for the photographs and for allowing us to share them.

Forever Yibba B-959 launching into a rough sea during an exercise off Flamborough.

The crew regularly train in challenging conditions to stay prepared for the call when they’re needed. Every exercise helps keep our volunteers ready to respond and help those in trouble at sea.
