Sad News

Dear Brethren,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Worshipful Brother Jonathon Lloyd passed away peacefully this afternoon (Sunday 5th April) with family around him.

W Bro. Jonathon was a very popular and well-known mason and had a very successful masonic career.
Jonathon was Initiated into Strumble Lodge on 11th February 1987, Passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft on 11th November of the same year and Raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on 8th June 1988. He went on to be Exaulted in to Abergwaun Royal Arch Chapter the following year on 22nd March 1989.

At Strumble 4351, he held many offices including Lodge Secretary for some 11 years, from 1998 until 2009, Mentor, Membership Officer as well as other offices including of course Master of the Lodge for two years during the Covid pandemic.

He was a founder member of the Richard Warburton Lodge 9767 and amongst other offices in the lodge, he served as Secretary from 2009 until 2013 and Master in 2015/16 and he was still a current member of the Abergwaun Chapter 3152.
In the Province, Jonathon was promoted to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2013 as well as Provincial Grand Registrar in 2006 and 2015.

Jonathon was recently bestowed the privilege by the brethren of Strumble, of becoming an Honorary Member of the lodge and this is something that he was extremely proud to have been granted as he thought the world of Strumble and its members.

Funeral arrangements will follow in due course.

Sincerely & fraternally,

Colin Hancock

WBro. Colin Hancock.
Secretary.

I am enthusiastic about the Masonic Knights Templar (KT) Order in West Wales. However not many in the West realise that our KT is governed by the Province of “Monmouth & South Wales Knights Templar” under Provincial Prior Dr Paul Calderwood.

Our UK Most Excellent Supreme Grand Master Paul Raymond Clement is a resident of Swansea and Past Provincial Marshall (1991-2001)

Parts of West Wales used to be a (Western) Division of South Wales until 2008, which is why KT still comes under Monmouth & South Wales.

Many Master Masons who wish to apply for Membership to the Knights Templar Order do not realise that they must first complete their “fourth step” by joining Royal Arch before they can become a Knights Templar.

So come on guys, take the next step and join us. ⚔️

For well over eight centuries, the story of the Knights Templars has fascinated and inspired generations of people and it is a legend that lies behind the success of the Masonic organisation that bears its name.

Our next meeting at Narberth in February will concentrate on Royal Arch Membership.Have you completed the Next Step?

And he is our Grand Master…..

You may have seen this man before on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. He's the oldest member of the Royal Family. Prince Edward, Duke of Kent is the grandson of George V and first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. He turned 90 last month. He is 42nd in the line of succession after inheriting his title at the age of six, following the death of his father in a plane crash. A former member of the British Army, the Duke stepped down in 1976 and has served as a working Royal ever since, presenting the trophies at Wimbledon for more than 50 years. 🤴

Last night I was honoured as Ruling Master of Richard Warburton Lodge to be invited to the installation of a new Master to Trevor Kelway Lodge 8466 - Llanelli Freemasons

I was particularly interested in attending as my recent studies in Knights Templar include a particular focus on Right Eminent Provincial Prior, Colonel George Trevor Kelway CBE TD, JP, DL, Born 30 March 1899 died 2nd Nov 1990, Lord Lieutenant Pembs 1955 High Sheriff Pembs 1958. Provincial Sub-Prior 1953-1958, 2nd Provincial Prior Monmouth & South Wales Knights Templar 1958-1966, 1st Preceptor of Giraldus Cambrensis Preceptory KT Llanelli 1948.

Most notably as the longest-serving Provincial Grand Master of the Craft Province of South Wales, Western Division, a post which he held for 41 years (1945-1986).

As he was obviously a Military man and we were very close to 11th November I couldn’t help but remember him as a veteran. 🌺

I cannot let this record of the evening pass without mention of the Inner Guard, who I noticed using obvious Scottish Constitution hand signals. I reminisced with him after the ceremony, that I had visited a Scottish Lodge from West Calder, Edinburgh( Thistle Lodge, associated closely with my home Lodge in Wales AERON LODGE 7208 - my Mother Lodge is Chester-le-Street, Co Durham ) where after their installation on Remembrance Day they parade to the local cenotaph in full Masonic Regalia. Both he and I were amazed to find it was his Mother Lodge where he was initiated. Like a relative of mine often states, “you will never have a coincidence if you don’t have a conversation!”
