At 15:59hrs on Friday 28th August 2026, MIRO crew were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard following a report that a yacht was in difficulty near to Lossiemouth.

Crew attended, and at 16:18hrs MIRO Rescue was launched and made best speed towards Lossiemouth into a large NE swell with the sea conditions moderate to rough.

The casualty vessel was traced approximately 1/2 mile north of Lossiemouth harbour and after establishing that all onboard were safe and well, the decision was made to transfer a MIRO crew member onto the casualty vessel to navigate it into Lossiemouth Harbour.

The yacht was eventually secured within the harbour and MIRO Rescue was stood down at 18:00hrs.

At 09:43hrs on Wednesday 12th August 2026, MIRO crew were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard following a report of an item of clothing (shoes) having been found at Burghead Harbour sea wall.

Crew attended immediately, MIRO Rescue was launched and made best speed to Burghead, where they crew were requested to carry out a slow speed shoreline search of the headland.

Following this, they were then requested by Aberdeen Coastguard to perform a shoreline search from Burghead Harbour to Roseisle, again nothing was found.

Aberdeen Coastguard thereafter, in discussion with MIRO crew, provided starting co-ordinates and search pattern details to perform a search of Burghead Bay.

On completion of this third task, again with nothing untoward established and with no further additional intelligence available, MIRO were stood down.

MIRO Rescue thereafter returned to Findhorn arriving back at 12:40hrs and was made ready for service.

At 10:57hrs on Sunday 9th August 2026, MIRO crew were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard to attend the report of a broken down motor boat approximately 2 miles east of Lossiemouth, requiring assistance.

Crew and Shore Support assembled immediately and MIRO Rescue was launched at 11:01hrs making best speed to the reported location.

Whilst enroute, Aberdeen Coastguard updated the crew that the casualty vessel was positioned 4.5 miles east of Lossiemouth and 3/4 mile offshore.

At 11:40hrs, MIRO Rescue arrived on scene and found 1 person onboard the casualty vessel, which had lost propulsion. A crew member was transferred onto the vessel, and a long tow was prepared, allowing the casualty vessel to be towed Lossiemouth Harbour at 5knts.

The tow was moved to a reverse alongside tow to enable berthing into the harbour.

MIRO Rescue thereafter returned to Findhorn arriving back at 13:10hrs and was made ready for service.

📟 📟 📟 CALL OUT 📟 📟 📟

At 15:12hrs on Tuesday 28th July 2026, MIRO crew were paged by HM Coastguard regarding 3 persons in difficulty in the water with no lifejackets or buoyancy aids, near to Nairn Harbour and being swept out by the winds and tide.

Crew assembled immediately and MIRO Rescue was launched at 15:21hrs making best speed towards Nairn heading into a large swell with winds gusting up to 30knots from the Southwest.

MIRO arrived on scene at 15:40hrs just after the arrival of Rescue 851 rescue helicopter.

MIRO Crew located the casualties, they could see that they were holding onto yellow noodle floats, and recovered 2 of the casualties onboard MIRO Rescue whilst Rescue 851 recovered the 3rd casualty from the water.

It was requested by Coastguard to convey the casualties into Nairn Harbour to allow transfer to an Ambulance, however, due to the low outgoing tide and build up of sand at the entrance to the harbour, Miro Rescue could only reach the area approximately 100m North of the harbour wall and the decision was made to winch the remaining two casualties onto Rescue 851 helicopter so that they could be transferred at speed to hospital.

By this point, due to the outgoing tide, MIRO Rescue briefly became lodged on the sandbank, but crew managed to free the boat and returned to Findhorn where they refuelled and made MIRO Rescue ready for service.

We can only remind those enjoying our local seas to ensure that you are fully aware of the local tides, wind speed and direction and wear either an appropriate life jacket or an appropriate buoyancy aid.

At 19:41hrs on Thursday 23rd July 2026, HM Coastguard paged crew from MIRO Rescue following the report of three kayakers requiring assistance and one person in the water.

Crew assembled immediately and MIRO Rescue was launched at 19:53hrs with the assistance of Shore Support and made best speed towards Hopeman.

MIRO Rescue whilst on route and approaching Burghead, were informed by HM Coastguard that all three kayakers were safe and well having made their way to shore.

MIRO Rescue was thereafter stood down and returned to Findhorn Marina, where she was refuelled and made ready for service.

🛟 Hopeman Harbour Day 🛟

Today MIRO volunteers were delighted to be present at Hopeman as part of their Gala Week celebrations. There was a large crowd in attendance on a sunny day, and lots of interest was shown to the MIRO stall and the Rescue Boat which members of the public could access via the pontoon.
