Play Kenya chooses Kindness

Play Kenya was established in 2007 after a life changing trip to Kenya where Anne-Marie Tipper and Debbie Pearce experienced first-hand the isolation, poverty and abuse that so many Kenyan children endured. It became obvious that children and young people in many parts of Kenya were neither respected nor prioritised, so this dynamic duo set out to change the way societ

y saw them. They worked tirelessly to change the minds and open the hearts of good people, who had simply been desensitised to the abuse that happened in front of them. Through the following years Anne-Marie, always with the support of Debbie who was now busy raising her family in the UK, visited and worked with communities, schools, orphanages and directly with the boys who lived on the streets in town, building relationships that have lasted until today. She set up, founded, developed and trained residential staff to support vulnerable and deeply traumatised boys and girls from a background of sexual, physical and emotional abuse; extreme poverty; abandonment; mistrust and fear. The impact of such abuse on children who had been disregarded by their families and society lives on. Changing the air these children breathed and filling it with love and kindness, alongside a lifetime of therapeutic knowledge, produced unprecedented results. The work develops and continues to develop, to change the futures of those who had no future. We are working directly with communities who live in town - Youths, Men, Girls, Women and Babies - enabling them to build lives where they have a skill that will keep them in employment; having a home to call their own; remaining drug and alcohol free and maintaining the self worth to be loving, kind family members, friends and parents long into the future. Imagine finding a family, a community, where you are accepted for being you. Where behaviour doesn’t drive judgement. Where Kindness, Love, Playfulness, Acceptance Curiosity and Empathy drive the ability to repair the multiple traumas in your life. That’s Play Kenya.
