🎉 Happy 18th Birthday to One of Our Own! 🎉Happy Birthday, LC Grainger! 🎂⚓

Today we celebrate LC Grainger turning 18 and officially ageing out of Filey Sea Cadets — but this isn’t goodbye. Far from it.

From day one, he’s shown commitment, teamwork, and the spirit that makes our unit what it is. Now, as he moves from cadet to staff, we’re incredibly proud to see him continue his journey with us, supporting the next generation on the water and beyond.

Once a Filey cadet, always part of the crew. 💙

🌟 Volunteers’ Week 2026 — From Our Hearts to Yours 🌟

The first week of June is Volunteers’ Week, and it reminds us of something we feel all year round, our unit is built on the kindness, time, and love of extraordinary people.

Every parade night, every boating session, every achievement our young people celebrate…
Behind it stands someone who chose to give a piece of their life so a cadet could grow, smile, belong, and believe in themselves.

To our incredible unit volunteers, you show up in the rain, in the cold, after long days at work, with patience, humour, and heart. You teach skills, build confidence, and change futures in ways you may never fully see… but our cadets feel it every single week.

And to our amazing Parents & Supporters Association — the ones who fundraise, organise, lift, carry, brew tea, run raffles, cheer from the sidelines, and quietly keep everything moving. You are the steady hands behind the scenes, making sure our young people have every chance to thrive.

You give your time.
You give your energy.
You give your heart.
And because of you, Filey Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets is a place where young people grow into stronger, kinder, more confident versions of themselves.

💙 Thank you — truly — for every unseen moment, every late night, every early start, every act of kindness.

You are Simply The Best.

⚓ Powerboat Success & A Moment of Remembrance

🌊Well done to our newly powerboat‑qualified cadets, who’ve spent the whole weekend in and out of Scarborough Harbour putting their skills to the test. Great boat handling, great attitudes, and great teamwork — exactly what we like to see.

A massive thank you, as always, to the District Training Team for delivering first‑class training throughout. Particular appreciation to our Dinghy Instructor and Powerboat Instructor for giving our young people the confidence and competence to thrive on the water.

Alongside the training, we also took part in a ceremony for a new memorial bench, marking 100 years of Filey & District RBL — a proud moment of reflection and remembrance.

🌊 Another Busy Weekend for Filey Sea Cadets

⚓It’s been full steam ahead again at Filey. Four members of staff spent the day at Wykeham Lakes, building their paddleboarding skills and adding even more strength to our on‑water team.

At the same time, one of our dinghy instructors and one of our powerboating instructors have been supporting the District Boating Weekend in Scarborough, helping young people from across the area get afloat safely.

And over in Scarborough, two of our cadets have been working hard on their Powerboat course — great progress today, with even more activity lined up for tomorrow.

Another weekend of commitment, teamwork, and development from everyone involved.

🌊 Another Amazing Night on the Water — With Bridlington Sea Cadets ⚓

Another amazing night on the water, made even better by training side‑by‑side with our friends at Bridlington Sea Cadets. Calm conditions, focused teams, and that brilliant shared buzz when two units come together with purpose. Skills up, confidence up, spirits high.

⛵ Sunday Sailing Clinic — Sunshine, Skills & Two Busy Groups! 🌤️

Another amazing day on the water, so we ran two groups of sailors to make the most of the conditions.

Our two advanced sailors were back refining key skills ahead of their Pre‑Skills Assessment in July. Today’s focus was a steady MOB pick‑up — slowing things down, tightening technique, and practising the assessment‑style approach rather than the usual drive‑by pick‑up.

Our second group was made up of some of our super‑keen juniors, finally getting their chance to sail after a couple of weeks of winds that were just too strong for beginners. Perfect conditions today for confidence building and first steps afloat.

A brilliant mix of progress and practice across the whole unit.
