Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club held a very successful prostate cancer testing event this morning at the Wimborne Masonic Centre.

We had 181 men through our door for testing, they should all get their results in the next few days.

Our thanks go to the Graham Fulford Trust for providing the paperwork and the team of three phlebotomists led by Pauline. We must also thank Wimborne Masonic Hall for their great venue and particularly Tony Croucher for giving up his day to host us.

We did have one dissatisfied customer though, an elderly lady came in asking for someone to look at her table lamp. She had confused PSA testing with PAT testing!!

Due to our fundraising efforts, Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club have been able to make some substantial donations to our local community before Christmas when it was particularly needed.

Lion Joan was delighted to present a cheque for £1000 to the Corfe Mullen FoodBank to help them cope with an increased demand leading up to Christmas, enabling them to buy exactly what they needed.

Diana Logan-Watts, the manager of the MS Centre Dorset in Parley and Liz Neal, one of the Trustees were thrilled to receive funds for £2100 which funded the Christmas party for the members and also assisted with the expenses connected to running the transport to get the members to the centre.

Our Lion President Peter Burnett was happy to deliver our donation of £1000 to Ferndown Community Support feat Ferndown Community Larder and bank so that much needed food could be purchased along with a new oven to help the local community

As well as these donations, we purchased, packed and distributed 103 food packages for local families in need.

If YOU would like to join us and help OUR local community please get in touch via our Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club page or the form on our website - https://www.wimborneandferndownlions.org.uk/_contact.html

Every year Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club produce Christmas food parcels for people in need in our area.
We have been shopping for special offers over the last few weeks and today we put it all out on tables at the Ferndown Guide Hall and packed 100 bags ready for distribution.
Thanks to everyone involved today - the Lion’s club members, their friends and families, Ferndown Guiding and all the organisations who are distributing on our behalf.
A really worthwhile day serving our communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended our free Prostate Cancer Testing event at the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown.

Out of the 227 men tested, 20% received a red high-risk letter and 8% received an amber warning letter.
That means 64 men were given an early warning and encouraged to seek further medical advice.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and proud to know this event may have helped save lives. Early detection is vital and your participation truly makes a difference.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, supporters and partners for helping make this possible.

We’re also pleased to confirm that the club will be holding another free PSA testing event in March next year. Further details to be announced.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, yet many won’t notice symptoms until it’s too late. If you’re over 50 (or 45+ with a family history), get tested — it could save your life.
