On the afternoon of August the 14th we joined together to celebrate the Statue of Our Lady of Penrhys. Members of the community of Penrhys and beyond worked hard in the month leading up to the event by creating 100's of crochet squares, which were then sewn up to create an 18 metre long cloak! On the day of the celebration around 70 members of the community gathered to walk together from Llanfair Chapel to the statue. We held a celebratory ceremony during which the cloak was placed on the statue and walked back to Llanfair to enjoy an afternoon of VR, outdoor games, water slide and picnic food. We would like to thank Generation Rhonda, Trivallis and all the wonderful community who were involved in making this event a success. We would like to extend a special thanks to community member Anne Lord for working tirelessly to sew together the final cloak - we couldn't have done it without you!
‘It was great to see people working together to make the colourful Crochet Cloak for Mary’s Statue. The day was a great success, but the most important part was bringing people of all ages together' (Quotes from Sharon and Neil)
On Friday the 28th of August we held our annual Above and Beyond Fun Day. The day offered a packed program of creative activities including creative workshops run by Nic and Anne Culver-House Evans, singing & samba drumming workshop with More Than Music Cymru, DJing with Dean Yhnell(Beat Technique), dancing with Sandra and face painting, closing with singing and dancing to music in the chapel.
'It was great to bring everybody together at the end of the summer holidays for the Fun Day on 28th August Everyone enjoyed all the activities, even with the weather turning against us. The community are looking forward to the next Above & Beyond event.’
We welcomed around a hundred participants and the day was enjoyed by both adults and children. Thank you to everyone who supported this event to make it an incredible success.
