WHY ARE WE HERE
Storehouse was started in 1996 by Riverside Vineyard Church because of a need we saw in our community, families who were struggling by themselves and finding it difficult to clothe their children. WHO ARE WE NOW
Storehouse is a Charity which regularly collects and distributes for free children's toys, clothes, shoes and equipment to these families who are made known to us.. HOW
DO WE WORK
A committed team of volunteers forms the backbone of this project. We receive good quality second hand donations of children items/equipment from both the church congregation and also from people in the community who have heard about us or been helped by storehouse themselves at some time. The donations are checked for quality and then carefully sorted into boys or girls boxes, age groups and seasons to enable us to serve clients more efficiently. Equipment is checked for safety to the best of our ability and carefully labelled and stored ready for clients to take. We stock all sorts of things that children generally use, stock varies and depends what is donated to us. Generally have clothes, footwear of all types, coats, toys, cots, pushchairs etc. WHERE DO OUR CLIENTS COME FROM. Families are referred to us from Health Visitors, Social Workers and other local professionals who are working in the community, they help to put us in touch with clients who will benefit from our help. Once a referral has been completed, clients can come into Storehouse during our opening hours and choose what they need, all for free! We generally suggest clients visit once per school term, children grow! WHO CAN WE HELP
We support those with children from 0-5 years of age, regardless of race, religion or family circumstances. If you know anyone who might benefit from Storehouse, please ask then to speak to their health Visitor, social worker or local health/community centre. LATEST NEWS AT STOREHOUSE
We recognise that trying to help meet material needs is only one small part towards helping people in this difficult economic climate. We have a food storehouse, also provided by donations from our church family, where we can offer bags of non perishable food to families short-term for periods of difficulty. Recently, on our open days, we have been setting up tables and chairs and making huge pots of tea and coffee and homemade cakes for our visiting clients. We don't just serve clothes and equipment anymore, our team of volunteers are also happy to offer friendship, to chat and listen to our clients, many who are very lonely and have no one else to share their troubles with, with over a cup and tea and cake. Clients can come to this coffee morning every week if they want to, its becoming very popular and meeting another vital need for often lonely parents.
