We love receiving pictures of the wildlife on the reserve from our visitors. Alan Boyle has sent us a selection of wonderful pictures of a range of birds. It's good to see Mrs avocet seeing off the marsh harrier to protect her chick.

⚠️🔥IMPORTANT REMINDER 🔥⚠️

As the hot, dry weather continues, all nature reserves including Trimley Marshes are at an ever-increasing risk from wildfires.

Please do not bring BBQs to our nature reserves.

Heathland is particularly susceptible to fires spreading quickly at the best of times, and this only increases during periods of hot weather. The same applies to woodland and grassland habitats.

How YOU can help:

🔥Spotted someone having a BBQ or open fire? Notify a member of staff immediately or ring 101 and report it (you can do this anonymously).

🔥Spotted a fire somewhere on the nature reserve? Ring 999 immediately and give the most accurate location you can (download the what3words app on your phone to help with location). Notify a member of staff if you can.

🔥Spotted a piece of glass on the ground? Where possible, safely dispose of it.

🔥Spotted a cigarette butt being dropped on the floor? Stub it out, douse it with water and where possible, safely dispose of it.

Taking action quickly could prevent wildfires devastating the nature reserve and killing wildlife, but of course, please ensure you keep yourself safe and do not put yourself at risk!

We're now getting late in the year for nightingales to be singing. This bird was singing near the Suffolk Showground this week and is likely to be a male that is yet to attract a female.

Considering the habitat is less than 25 years old it goes to show what wildlife you can attract to an area if you manage it well. Why not plant something in your garden and see what you can attract? You are highly unlikely to get a nightingale but there are lots of other species that need our help! 🦋🐝🐦
