DAY FOUR OF OUR LONESOME BOYS
Smartie - Smartie is definitely not a Smartie-pants, but he’s got the looks. Tall, black, slightly older at 7 years old, he’s one of our biggest dogs at nearly 40kg. Keith has been taking him out over the last few weeks and although very reactive initially, there has definitely been improvement. He’s not completely there yet, so will need a little work and patience but with more exposure he will definitely make it. He’s generally a happy boy, polite and gentle with the humans, can get a little over-excited if there’s a lot going on, so a nice, calm home would suit him down to the ground. Smartie is up to 300 days with us and being slightly older we definitely feel it’s time for him to put his paws up on his own sofa.

DAY THREE OF OUR LONESOME BOYS
King - this 5 year old is a big bundle of love on 4 spindly legs - big being the operative word! He absolutely adores people and seeks affection from all and sundry. His other big love is food and he’s not shy about trying to get on a table to find some, so new owners would have to have clear worktops, all food away. King has recently had several outings with Keith and been very good around other breeds. Other than his size and the fact he’s slightly (quite a bit 😂) like a bull in a china shop, there’s so much to love about this boy and he will repay you for that love with infinite cuddles. King has been with us 320 days - let’s try and get him a home before he hits the year.

💙🐾 DAY TWO OF OUR LONESOME BOYS 🐾💙
Daz - our Daz (Dazzles to his friends) is a slender 5 year old black boy. We have struggled with some health issues with Daz where he was losing weight but there were no real medical reasons for this (apart from slightly low thyroid which is being treated inexpensively), we think possibly depression was a factor. We are finally at the stage now where he is maintaining and even putting on some weight consistently. He used to be a very reluctant walker but now he loves getting out and about and has a real spring in his step. He frequently enjoys ‘tea hut time’ with us and lays quite happily next to Bugley the terrier, however he does need a little more exposure to the outside world to become completely confident. Daz has been with us for 380 days - surely it must be his turn soon especially now he is back to full health.

Over the next few days, I would like to introduce you to 4 special boys who all think they’ve been forgotten and are just waiting for that special someone to come along. Please read and share far and wide, as no dog deserves to have to wait this long for a family to call their own.
💙🐾 DAY ONE OF OUR LONESOME BOYS 🐾💙
Chas - Chas is a big 6 year old blue boy with striking eyes. He is exceptionally polite and gentle around all our staff and volunteers, and loves a cuddle. He has a big fan base with our volunteer walkers, however he is breed reactive, but controllable around other breeds as long as you stay alert and spot them first. For this reason we would like Chas to go to someone with experience of breed reactivity, who will not get complacent after a few months and will continue to use a muzzle at all times when he is out in public. You would also need to be physically fit as he’s a strong lad, although walks beautifully when there are no distractions. 95% of the time he’s a dream dog, the other 5% you just need to have your wits about you. Could you be the one to end his kennel days - currently at 800 days and counting.
If you think you could be the one to give Chas a chance please get in touch and come and meet him - [email protected]

We would like to introduce you to Bennett - so called because he was dumped and tied to a lamppost in Bennett Close. We believe he is around 3-4 years old, and according to the DNA test we had on him, he is half greyhound, half saluki with a pinch of deerhound, whippet and Bedlington thrown in, which all adds up to a lovable goofball! Bennett has been staying with Charlotte and her two greyhounds recently and this is what she had to say about him.
“What a pleasure it has been having Bennett at home, he has really blossomed into a happy, cheeky, lovable boy and settled in beautifully. The first few days he was understandably a little unsure - he would lay on the floor near you but not too close, and he would accept a fuss but not ask for it. However, by day 3 he was sitting on the sofa with us, taking toys from the box and playing, enjoying the sunshine in the garden and even coming over for fuss, and now he's just loving everything that goes with home life.
Bennett jumps in the car and travels well, loves going out for woodland walks with his friends, eats and sleeps well and loves playing with toys and being outside in the garden on a nice sunny day. He has met many different breeds of all different sizes, and most interactions are fine, however, he can get worried about high energy dogs approaching him and getting into his space, he will bark and tell them he's not happy. We are working on this as it's not every dog, and he is learning that they aren't a threat and he can ignore them instead of barking, he just needs the reassurance from his handler that all is good. All in all 4.9 stars for Bennett!”
If you think you could be the person to make Bennett believe in people again, please get in touch with us and come up and meet him. Alternatively please share this post far and wide and hopefully Bennett’s soulmate will see this 🤞🙏🏻🥰
