We are pleased to announce our 2026 summer school will be run by Elaine Sheppard Bolt.

This is a two day workshop. Try throwing with porcelain and work on your throwing skills with Elaine Sheppard Bolt; explore turning and embellishing thrown pieces with loop handles, slips and twigs. This course is suitable for those who have some existing throwing experience that they would like to build upon, and those who would like to try porcelain.

The workshop aims to look at improving your throwing skills with porcelain and looking at how to make your pieces individual. The sessions will focus on discovering the properties and challenges of this material and improving techniques in throwing and turning. We will throw cylinders, bowls and narrow necked vases to practice these skills using porcelain. The second day will focus on turning and exploring finishing your pieces. You will focus on practice more than creating a perfect finished piece.

Clay is Audrey Blackman Porcelain.
All materials included and 3 pieces fired.
Please bring a packed lunch.
Hot/Cold drinks and snacks are provided.

Elaine has an MA in Ceramics from UCA Farnham and am an alumni of the Crafts Council’s Hothouse talent development programme. I have worked as a Lecturer on the BA Ceramics course at the University of Brighton as a short course tutor at West Dean College and Forest Row School of Ceramics alongside developing my practice at my studio in Sussex.

Elaine has run projects funded by Arts Council England, by a-n Artist Bursary and by the Quenington Sculpture Trust. Her work has been featured in Ceramic Review (Jan/Feb 2020 issue 301) and I have written articles for a number of publications.
