There was a fire at Hyde's Heath, RSPB Arne, on Monday evening. It was thankfully extinguished after a few hours of hard work from DWFireRescue and Fire Station .

Bird nesting season is underway and it sad to see such a precious habitat being damaged by fire, this could have been so much worse had the fire service not tackled it so effectively.

As the cause of this is being investigated, police are asking people to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour on our precious heathlands by calling 999 immediately.

Dorset Council is currently consulting on a new proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which will bring greater protection to our heathlands by extending the control of lighting fires on open land.

If you’d like to comment on the consultation, visit the Dorset Council website https://consultation.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/c-e/olpspo/

**POLITE NOTICE**

Obviously we want everyone to enjoy the nice weather this weekend, but please do so responsibly by not lighting fires in warm/dry conditions.

Luckily, this fire was reported this evening (Saturday 8th March) by a member of the public before it got out of control.

Camp fires, stoves and BBQs are NOT permitted on any nature reserves.

If you see a fire on any nature reserve during spring/summer or in dry weather, whether it’s big or small, please call 999 and report it to the local fire brigade.

They would much rather you call them to report a campfire before it gets out of control and turns into a wildfire.

Many thanks 👍

It’s that time of year again folks.
The sun is shining, the birds are singing, spring is springing.
Help us keep RSPB Farnham & Hazeley Heaths a safe haven for wildlife by keeping yourselves and your pooches to the paths and out of the heather; this is where our wonderful wildlife will be nesting.
Happy walking!!
