A morning full of glorious Autumn sun, we were as busy as the bees!šŸ Amazing what a smattering of rain can do to plump the harvest. There are plans to plant more garlic, we potted up strawberry runners and nurtured those Christmas Brussels šŸ„¬ Dave is on the final leg of the poly tunnels irrigation system - what a marathon he has run! We earned our tea today, with some delicious shortbread from Alison, to celebrate Bob's birthday šŸ„³

Weā€™re launching a major conservation project to help restore populations of one of Englandā€™s most threatened bumblebees, the Moss carder bumblebee šŸ

Moss carder bee recovery in England is a three-year initiative that will be delivered by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust alongside experts at the University of Cambridge. The project will focus on three key landscapes across England:
šŸŒŠ Kentā€™s coastal grasslands, grazing marshes and sea walls
šŸŒ¾ Cornwallā€™s coastal grasslands, dunes and heathland
ā›°ļø The North Penninesā€™ upland fringe landscape

Once widespread in the UK, the Moss carder bumblebee is now in decline and is largely found in small, fragmented populations. With its distinctive velvety ginger-yellow appearance, this rare species faces significant challenges due to habitat loss and fragmentation.

Working alongside local landowners and communities, weā€™ll trial habitat improvements, deepen our understanding of this rare species, and identify the conservation actions that can help secure its future.

This category celebrates people who give their time and energy to make Rushmoor greener, cleaner and more sustainable.

For example, someone who:

ā€¢ Plants trees or helps maintain local green spaces
ā€¢ Supports conservation projects
ā€¢ Promotes recycling and sustainable living
ā€¢ Regularly picks up litter in their local area
ā€¢ Shares their knowledge about recycling, insulation, renewable energy or other ways to live more sustainably

Volunteering doesnā€™t have to be organised through a group or charity. Someone who simply sees something that needs doing and takes the initiative can make a real difference.

A huge thank you to all those involved in making Rooted Together a 10th Anniversary to remember! A day full of warmth and smiles, a coming together of our community in a special way. Thanks to funding from Rushmoor Borough Council and , the event was offered for free, making it accessible for all.
Mayor of Rushmoor Cllr Peter Cullum, Rev Thea Edwards, Vicar of Good Shepherd Church and Lila Mabo, president of Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community (GRNC) Officially opened the event, giving thanks to past and present members, Chairmen and Chairlady, plus Thea offering a thanksgiving prayer to bless this years harvest gathering. We are pleased to say the local community gave generously to the Nepali Flood Appeal, raising over Ā£100. A picture speaks a thousand words so please enjoy.
