FREE SHUTTLE BUS

We are pleased to announce that Stagecoach will provide a FREE shuttle bus to operate on Coxwell Road during the period of the A420/Great Coxwell junction road closure.

This service will commence operation on Monday 7th September until further notice. It will be reviewed to assess use, particularly on Sundays where it has been less possible to align the shuttle bus times with the S6.

During this period, service S6 buses will operate via Park Road and the A420 in both directions.

Stagecoach will be updating roadside panels as soon as possible.

This is the updated timetable and Faringdon Town Council will also have it on their website.

Great news to finish the week, as we are happy to announce that a Coxwell Road Shuttle Bus Service should be running from Monday.

After working with officers at the County Council this week, and lobbying Stagecoach, we have just been told that we should have a shuttle bus service running up and down the Coxwell Road throughout the roadworks on the A420.

We don't have all the details as yet, nor do we have a timetable, but we hope to hear more over the weekend and first thing Monday morning, and will update you as soon as we can.

ROAD RESURFACING PETITION

Coxwell Street, Coxwell Road and the eastern section of the Highworth Road at its intersection with Coxwell Road, in Faringdon, have long been neglected, and have not been resurfaced for many years.

Consequently, they are in a poor state of repair. Until recently, highways management like this has not been prioritised, in what has come to be known as 'managed decline'. The highways authority is now putting significant funding into road repairs but this needs to be prioritised.

We have started this petition, after a resident contacted us wanting action and to bolster our ongoing campaign. I would encourage as many people to sign (we need at least 50) so that all that are undersigned are thereby requesting that Oxfordshire County Council repairs these stretches of road, resurfacing them to bring them back into a good state of repair as a priority.

We are aiming to take this to County next month to lodge and speak at a public meeting.

We are working with Oxfordshire County Council to address illegal parking on London Street, which is creating significant bottlenecks in the town and causing understandable concern for local residents.
We are lobbying for further enforcement of this area, and we will be asking all residents to refrain from parking on double yellow lines on London Street – what may seem like a matter of convenience for one driver popping out to use the shops, causes massive disruption to many and backs up traffic throughout the town.

We are also looking at other ways of mitigating these issues and are putting these ideas to the county council to get them in place when works start. We will keep you informed of developments as soon as possible.

Again, thank you for your patience.

Stagecoach welcomes the scheduled works to install traffic lights onto the A420 at Great Coxwell, seeing it as an essential safety improvement at this collision blackspot.

They have been working with county council in the development of these works; however, bus services will be disrupted in this period.
Unfortunately, it is not economically viable for Stagecoach to operate the Coxwell Street/Coxwell Road service during the works. Oxfordshire County Council is therefore exploring grant funding for a shuttle bus service, and discussions are ongoing.

We have been working with the Cambrian Learning Trust to understand the needs of school buses at the same time.
We thank you for your patience once again and will keep you updated with any further news if anything changes.

There have been a lot of rumours flying around about what is and isn’t happening over the coming months. One rumour we have heard is that the A420 and the Coxwell Road will be closed. This is not true. Coxwell Road leading into Coxwell Street will remain open, as will the A420 itself.

The closure affects only the small section of road leading directly onto the A420 from Monday 7 September.

It is unfortunate that this corresponds with the SSEN programme to upgrade the electricity network in the area. We know this is frustrating to have works happening on two areas in Faringdon, however the Park Road roundabout should be cleared in the next week, with works shifting further down Park Road as they move closer to the substation, until October 6.

After many years of campaigning, the long-awaited traffic calming measures at the Great Coxwell/A420 junction will finally commence on September 7. This is changing the road layout to accommodate traffic lights at this collision hotspot and will take up to 6 months to complete.

We are pleased this is finally happening but just as frustrated as anyone about the effects it will have on Faringdon while the works progress. We will provide monthly updates as the project progresses, tracking it with contactors and officers to make sure it is on schedule.

There has been a lot of misinformation flying around out there, from people who really ought to know better. We are the only source of accurate information on Facebook, so please, stick with us for updates and news.

As a starter, and very importantly, Coxwell Road leading into Coxwell Street will remain open throughout the works, but bus schedules will be affected. The main focus has always been to keep this thoroughfare open as well as to minimise blockages and delays on the A420.

We will be giving you further updates on different aspect of this work throughout the week, including everything we are doing to help minimise the disruption to traffic flow in the town.
We want to thank you for your patience as works progress and please continue or to start following our page for further updates.
