Working at YOU remains an absolute privilege. Even after three years with the organisation, I continue to be inspired daily by the commitment, compassion and dedication of our staff and volunteers, as well as the resilience, strengths and potential of the clients and communities we work alongside.

Over the past 40+ years, YOU has grown into a leading charity supporting people across the South of England to live safe, independent, and healthy lives. Our services span a broad range of areas. These include domestic abuse and stalking support, advice services, learning disability and mental health support, health and wellbeing programmes, and specialist training.

Our growth and success have been guided by an exceptional Board of Trustees. These dedicated volunteers bring passion, expertise, and a shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. They play a vital role in ensuring the charity remains focused on its mission, values, and future development.

We are currently seeking new Trustees to join our Board. Could this be you?

Becoming a Trustee is both rewarding and enriching. It offers an opportunity to contribute your skills and experience while developing new ones while working alongside a diverse group of talented and committed individuals. Most importantly, it gives you the chance to help create meaningful change for the people and communities we serve.

Our Board brings together people with a range of professional expertise and lived experiences, all united by a commitment to advancing our charitable ambitions. Trustees attend around ten Board meetings each year and have opportunities to visit services, attend events, and hear directly from clients and families about the impact of our work.

This is an exciting time to join YOU. As we look ahead to the next five years, we are focused on delivering our strategic vision, building on our achievements, including our Outstanding CQC rating for caring, and continuing to provide the highest-quality services for those who rely on us.

Did you know our EmploYOU service supports people aged 16+ with learning disabilities and other eligible support needs to develop the skills, confidence, and experience needed to move into education, training, volunteering, and paid employment.

Through a personalised, person-centred approach, our team works alongside individuals to identify their strengths, build aspirations, overcome barriers, and achieve meaningful goals. Whether someone is leaving education, transitioning from day services, exploring volunteering opportunities, or looking for sustainable employment, we're there every step of the way.

Our participants have gone on to placements and opportunities with organisations including Royal Mail, RSPCA, Dorset Council, Dorset Air Ambulance, Co-op, British Heart Foundation, Carnival UK, Swanage Railway, and many more.

We are proud to help people develop greater independence, confidence, routine, and self-belief while supporting employers to create inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive.

Thank you to Dorset Council for investing in a service that helps people unlock their potential and build brighter futures.

A special day out at the farm

Two brothers we support in Waterlooville recently enjoyed a visit to a local farm with Emily from our Enablement East team.

The brothers have faced some significant personal challenges recently, so it was wonderful to see them taking some time to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and make happy memories together.

From meeting the animals to spending quality time in a peaceful setting, the visit provided a welcome opportunity to focus on fun, friendship, and wellbeing.

Thank you to Emily for supporting the brothers on their day out and helping make it such a positive experience.

We're excited to host our first-ever Masquerade Fundraiser in support of our domestic abuse service in Swindon. It's on 13 November from 19:00.

Money raised will go to supporting people escaping domestic abuse and our refuges.

Your ticket (£50) includes:

🍽️ A delicious three-course meal
🎵 Live music and entertainment
🎤 Inspiring guest speakers

🐦☀️ A Fantastic Day at Birdworld! ☀️🐦

Residents from Millmount Bungalow and Byron Close joined The YOU Trust and St Mary's Day Service in Fleet for a wonderful trip to Birdworld on Thursday 20 August.

Malcolm, Gemma, Deanie and Lucy, who attend the day service each week, were among those who enjoyed the adventure. They were lucky with the beautiful summer weather and everyone had a fantastic time exploring the park, seeing the amazing birds and spending time together.

A great day full of smiles, fresh air and wonderful memories! 💚

EmploYOU helps people aged 16+ with learning disabilities in Dorset build the confidence, skills, and independence needed to take the next step towards a brighter future.

Whether you're: ✅ Leaving education or day services
✅ Looking for work, volunteering, or training opportunities
✅ Unsure where to start
✅ Lacking confidence and need extra support
✅ Wanting help to succeed and stay in work

We're here to help every step of the way.

Our person-centred support includes:

- CV writing and job application support
- Interview preparation and mock interviews
- Help finding training and learning opportunities
- Job coaching and workplace support
- Access to Work application support
- Ongoing support for up to six months after starting employment

We've helped people secure placements and opportunities with organisations including Royal Mail, Dorset Council, RSPCA, Dorset Air Ambulance, Co-op, British Heart Foundation, Carnival UK, Southampton University, and many more.

Every individual receives a tailored Vocational Profile, Progression Plan, and SMART Action Plan, designed around their personal goals and ambitions.

Referrals are made through Dorset Council, who will guide you through the process and help you access the right support.

This week we were fortunate enough to have Friends of Byways arrange to have Miller's Ark bring some of their lovely farm animals for our residents to enjoy! Everyone had a blast at our Odiham residence. Thank you!
