Who will build the homes, schools and infrastructure of tomorrow if we can't recruit the workforce today?

Across Hampshire and the Solent, construction employers are reporting ongoing skills shortages in key trades including roofing, scaffolding, gas engineering, dry lining, groundworks and electrical installation—highlighting the urgent need to strengthen the sector's talent pipeline.

Our new Construction Partner Evidence Report brings together employer insights to explore the challenges facing the industry and the practical actions needed to help address them.

From expanding apprenticeships and work experience to strengthening employer-education partnerships and developing future green and technical skills, the report outlines recommendations to ensure the construction sector has the workforce it needs to thrive.

Every recommendation is informed by employer feedback, helping to shape skills provision that reflects the real needs of the construction industry across Hampshire and the Solent.

Did you know? Employers across the creative sector identified flexible apprenticeships, improved access to freelance talent, and stronger industry collaboration as some of the biggest opportunities to address skills shortages and support sector growth.

Our new Creative Industries Partner Evidence Report explores the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, including the creation of a Hampshire & Solent Film Skills Steering Group, a cross-LSIP skills forum with industry partners, and an online freelancer and crew directory to help connect businesses with local talent.

Congratulations to Lola Frajman, International Trade Executive, who has successfully passed her BCC EUR1 Course Assessment – the final exam needed to complete her International Trade training.

The assessment tests detailed knowledge of EUR1 movement certificates, which can enable importers to claim reduced or zero import duties when trading under applicable preferential trade agreements. Having passed the assessment, Lola can now officially sign off EUR1 certificates, further strengthening the expertise within our International Trade team.

Lola said: “I’m very proud to have passed my final exam and to be able to support my team in all the services we provide. It took a lot of hard work, as well as being guided by my colleagues, and seeing the pass on my screen was such a relief. My certificate now proudly sits alongside my ATA Carnets, UK Certificates of Origin and Arab Certificates of Origin.”
