A moment to be really proud of.

On Saturday we had our first ever team day with George’s Rockstars growing team of music therapists, fundraising team and trustees. (Minus three but nearly all in one room!)

What started as an idea around a kitchen table after losing George to leukaemia in 2019 and seeing first hand the difference music therapy made to him during his bone marrow transplant at Bristol Children’s Hospital has grown into a regional charity supporting children in nineteen wards across eight hospitals in Hampshire Sussex and Dorset as well as the amazing restorative break home for children with complex needs, the Bluebells, in partnership with Sebastian’s Action Trust

Our team of eight music therapists are making a difference to children from tiny babies in neonates to teenagers and all ages in between, helping them deal with the trauma, isolation and anxiety of living with serious illness, disability or mental health crisis in hospital through music therapy and the demand for our support from NHS teams and families continues to grow so next year I imagine the team will have grown even more!

Thank you to all of our amazing team for the hard work and belief in the transformative power of music. What a legacy we have created in George’s name.

🎵🤖 Who knew a robot dog could be such a good drummer? 🥁🐶

This week, our Music Therapist Rachel joined the brilliant hospital school team at Poole Hospital for a fun and creative session with children on the ward.

The children were learning how to use Gerald, a robotic dog designed to support learning and communication. Before long, they were programming him to play the drums and making music together!

What looked like lots of fun (and it absolutely was!) was also helping children build confidence, develop communication skills, explore cause and effect, and express themselves through music.

When children are in hospital, it's so important that they can still learn, play, be creative and just be children. Bringing together music therapy, technology and education opened up so many opportunities for engagement, laughter and achievement.

A huge thank you to the wonderful hospital school team for inviting Rachel along and for embracing music as part of children's learning and wellbeing in hospital.

🎵 One Year of Music Therapy at Dorset County Hospital 🎵

This week marks one year of music therapy on Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital, made possible thanks to the incredible support from Teddy Rocks Festival in memory of Ted Newton.

Over the past year, our music therapist Mary-Clare has supported children and families through some of the most challenging moments of their lives, using music to help children express themselves, cope with treatment, reduce anxiety and create positive memories during their hospital stay.

What started as a vision inspired by Ted's legacy has become a vital source of support for so many families across Dorset. We're incredibly proud of the impact this partnership has made and grateful to everyone at Teddy Rocks Festival for helping us bring the power of music therapy to children when they need it most.

Thank you for helping us ensure that Ted's legacy continues to make a difference. 🎸
