Our History

Hill Park Women’s Institute in Fareham, was founded in 1941 when meetings were held

in a renovated chicken house, and later in a garage. In 1947, after many fund raising

efforts, new members were able to buy a wartime fire station which was transported

From Bursledon to the present site in Oak Road and in 1966, after further fund raising,

a more substantial hall was built.

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 2pm. In the W.I.Hall at the

Highlands Road end of Oak Road, when members are entertained by speakers on a

variety of subjects. We have a choir which meets every Wednesday at 10.15 a.m. and

have won awards over many years at local Music Festivals.We have a craft group

meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 2pm in the W.I Hall. A good deal of

interest is shown in craft skills. A bursary is awarded periodically to enable a member to

attend a residential course of her choice at the W.I.s’ own Denman College near Oxford.

We also have a book club which meets monthly at a members home on the first Monday

of each month.

Coffee mornings, a birthday party and a party at Christmas feature among other social

activities, including those organised by Hampshire County Federation.

We would very much welcome new members and visitors.
