On Wednesday evening, Claudia(CJ) and Rachael went afloat onboard Falmouths Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat 'Robina Nixon Chard' with Mark Rickard as Helm and under the watchful eye of Regional Assessor Matt Simpson for their crew assessments.

Congratulations to CJ who passed the Tier 2 ILB assessment and Rachael who passed the Tier 1 ILB assessment.

Both RNLI volunteers underwent full assessment and a pass out exercise, achieving the required standard of competency necessary for that level.

Under the RNLI's Operational Competence Framework, all our RNLI volunteers are working extremely hard to achieve the qualifications necessary to allow them to go to sea in our lifeboats and operate them safely and efficiently.

Luke Wills Station Cox,

'Well done to both on this milestone achievement, thank you for your commitment and efforts. Thanks also to all those who have trained and supported CJ and Rachael in their time at Falmouth.

The demands on our RNLI volunteers, and their families, are huge and I would like to thank every one of them for their massive commitment to provide the Lifeboat service in Falmouth.'

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival takes place this weekend (Fri 12th - Sun 14th) - the festival raises money for Falmouth lifeboat and the RNLI in Cornwall

We are looking for volunteers to donate a couple of hours of their time helping to collect donations around Falmouth, and in return youโ€™ll get a traditional Cornish pasty and a drink, setting you up perfectly to enjoy the many shanty groups performing on the weekend.

We will provide a collection bucket, RNLI tabard and instructions. We also have some contactless card machines to help boost donations. Youโ€™ll collect and return your bucket from a central location in the town and will work in pairs at different locations with lots of passing festival goers.

If you are interested in helping out please visit the link below and select a a slot that suits you - you are welcome to do multiple slots if suits

Once again, a huge thank you to Eric Mager who, for the fifth year running, has supported Falmouth RNLI and donated money to the station. Eric, an ex-Merchant Navy seaman, was originally from Cleethorpes on the Humber estuary but he now lives in Falmouth. He returns to his home town annually to visit relatives and also attend a reunion of fellow ex-Merchant Navy seamen that he instigated a few years ago. The event, held in a pub in Cleethorpes, also raises money for charity by holding an auction of items brought in by everybody attending with the money being split between Kennedyโ€™s Disease UK and Falmouth RNLI. The reunion was well supported with people coming from a number countries including Canada, Australia and Spain.

Eric, who was once rescued by Falmouth RNLI a number of years ago, came down to the station this morning (Tuesday 9 June) and presented Falmouth RNLI Deputy Coxswain Nick Head with ยฃ754.70. Nick thanked Eric for his ongoing support and said it was important as it helps our volunteer crews save lives at sea.

Our crews pagers sounded at 11.50pm last night, following reports of three persons in a small tender, struggling with the conditions and waving for help, 300m off of Fish Strand Quay.
The lifeboat 'Robina Nixon Chard' launched at midnight and was on scene in the Force 7 winds, within four minutes. Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked.
After searching for 25 minutes and with Falmouth Coastguard content that the persons were no longer in difficulty, the lifeboat was stood down, returning to the boathouse by 12.30am.
The service was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.
