We are delighted to welcome you to our Active Looking Project Annual Exhibition, which will take place this year Trevow Helston

The Active Looking Project Annual Exhibition | Trevow Chapel, Helston
Thursday 25th June – Sunday 28th June | 10:00 – 16:00 every day

Special Family Day on Saturday 27th June with Cyanotype and Camera Obscura Workshops with bookable slots though our Eventbrite link below

The Active Looking Project Annual Exhibition celebrates a year of accessible creative workshops, meet-ups, and shared challenges across Cornwall. Bringing together work made in community spaces, from libraries to local hubs, this exhibition highlights how creativity can nurture wellbeing, spark conversation, and strengthen connections.

Guided by four simple principles, that looking is deliberate, slow, caring, and open to everyone, the project invites us to see more thoughtfully and act with intention.
Featuring over 90 photographic prints alongside collaborations with local artists, creatives and community participants, the exhibition weaves together the many strands of the project. It offers a moment to pause, reflect and recognise how small, collective actions can lead to meaningful change.

Come and experience the power of creative engagement, feel free to stay for a cuppa and a chat.

The exhibition is FREE to attend but if you would like to take part in the Family Day sessions, please head to our Eventbrite to book a space: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/make-it-better-mitber-cic-32598381453

FREE* Sustainable Darkroom Skills | Training for Organisations | 9 July | 9:30 - 15:00 | Tehidy

We are delighted to partner with Cornwall VSF to offer some one-off training sessions that explore Active Looking and Nature Connection through a series of creative workshops.

Join us on 9th July for this hand-on session where we will show you how to create low-toxicity and plant-based photographic processes, including cyanotype and anthotype.

Using Active Looking Principles, we will explore how sharing these skills with others creates positive actions that lift mood, strengthen relationships and nurture community connection.

Whether you are working closely with communities, looking to develop your skills or want to examine how you can bring a sense of creativity into your everyday work, this session provides a unique opportunity to engage with a creative practice and explore how this can lead to positive change.

Each session includes lunch and a training pack, so that you can put into practice what you learn.

*If you are a Voluntary, Community or Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisation you may be eligible for a grant to cover the costs of the training. Funding may be available through VSF’s Learning Academy, which offers training subsidies for people working or volunteering in the VCSE sector in Cornwall. Please contact [email protected]

If you have any questions about the training or would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Ruth from Make It Better, [email protected]

We are truly delighted to be part of this year's Nansledan Arts Festival!

Join local photographer Emma Macdonald of Emma Mac Photography for a two hour creative photography workshop exploring the many perspectives of Nansledan.

Active Looking Photography Workshop as part of the Nansledan Arts Festival
Saturday 20th June
12:00 - 14:00

Meet at 12pm at Sabzi Coffee Shop, Stret Myghtern Arthur, Nansledan TR8 4UX

Funded by Make it better (mitber) CIC and The National Lottery, this workshop is open to anyone with a smartphone or camera, from complete beginners to experienced photographers.

We will begin with a short discussion about perspective in photography, then explore our own perceptions of Nansledan as a place to live, work and visit. After covering a few simple composition principles, we will head out to photograph the area, capturing people, architecture, nature and community through our individual lenses. There will be optional guidance on manual camera settings for those who would like it.

After the shoot, we will return to share and discuss selected images together. Each participant will choose two or three photographs that represent their personal view of Nansledan. With permission, images may be shared on festival social media.

Emma is a professional photographer based near Newquay, regularly photographing events, people and community life across Cornwall. She also brings over twenty years of experience in education, creating workshops that are welcoming, engaging and thought provoking.

Nansledan is accessible by bus from Truro, St Austell and Newquay.
